2017 in Canada: Honda's Second Hatchback is the Civic

2017 Honda Civic hatchback will be sold in Canada after an 11-year hiatus.

Hmm, so not even close to the 2016 Fit. It looks more like a Crosstour. High beltline, very small rear window similar to the Hyundai's. As the rear window slants forward at a shallow angle this will limit loading goods into the rear. It looks like a sedan that can have the rear seats fold flat. If you loaded up stuff and happen to hit the brakes hard do you risk breaking the rear window?

From what I have seen in the local dealership the new Civics are larger than the older Accords, so this vehicle might be as long as the HRV.

It will be offered in manual shift or CVT. For me it is just too large. Made in Great Britain. source

Here is the now discontinued Crosstour:

1980 Accord

I like it. Hatchbacks are practical and very popular in Europe, but not so much in the U.S.. I loved my '80 Accord (as pictured here) and you're right -- it's size was likely smaller than today's Civics.

made in mexico is probably better build quality..

Ha! I had that exact car, color and everything. It was one of the best cars I've ever owned. Parking was so ridiculously easy. God love you sir for posting that.

WOW - I love hatchbacks, but IMHO that 2017 Civic is Hideous.

I'd get a Crosstour before that.

Pretty much all of the comments I've seen elsewhere mirror this sentiment. No love at all for this thing. On the plus side maybe it looks better in person than it does in pictures. :eek3:

You're very welcome - your post made me smile. I drove it for almost 15 Years and sitting behind the wheel was like putting on a pair of old jeans -- instantly comfortable and familiar. I treasure that photo too.

Quick then, the Crosstour is being discontintued. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I think the 2017 Civic Hatchback looks great.

I like it too. It's not as practical looking as the fit, closed to mazda 3, but still nice.

We're definitely on the same page. I expected the Civic hatchback to be more functional, but it's a more sporty, aggressive design. If one desires function over fashion, Honda has plenty of other hatchbacks in its lineup.

Really? The only other hatchback I know of is the Fit. What other hatchback does Honda sell? And this Civic supposed hatchback is not even available yet.

I'm sorry, but I consider the HRV, CRV, Pilot and Odyssey as vehicles with a hatch that allow for increased functionality.

damn i'd take that 80s hatch any day
