Engine and cabin filter recs

Any recommendations for cabin and engine air filters? Dealer wanted me to replace cabin air filter for my 20k service, I'd rather do this myself.

Thanks for looking.

IMO, Amazon. Under $20 brand.

Rock auto. Get the one with charcoal, they seem to have both with and without.

Thanks folks. Looking now.

I buy OEM filters for less on EBay.

Out of curiosity, what did the dealer want to charge you ($$$ - parts and labor) for replacing that filter?

solbrothers 04-12-2017 12:05 PM

no offense but if you can open your glove box, you can change the cabin filter. It's super easy.

I'm confused on who you would be offending...?

Too right, solbrothers.

Woof, I think they were asking 35 clams for the part, the conversation didn't get any further.

I once allowed a dealer to change the CAF in my Corrolla. They charged me $40.

Pulled and inspected, also the engine air filter since I was on the subject. they weren't in disastrous shape, but priced around out here? no way.

Rock auto, here I come. Will report back in a week or so.

Thanks for the helpful hints.

This is where consumers have to be VERY careful.
My Dad who is retired recently told me when he took his Toyota in for service, the service department wanted to charge him over $100 to replace the cabin air filter.

He was savvy enough to say no.
But I have to wonder how many older people, or people just totally unfamiliar with vehicle maintenance get suckered into paying ridiculous amounts for this "service".

I told my dad, I'd never take that vehicle back to that service department again.
It's basically just like the Honda, as easy as removing the glove box and sliding in a filter.
From a labor standpoint this should almost be an automatic free courtesy and the cost should never exceed the cost of the filter IMO.
This is definitely a search out your own filter, and DIY operation. Especially since it seems too many service departments use it as a profit generator.

Just replaced both, Rock Auto came through in under a week and under $35 for both, swapped out in 5 minutes. Dealers? Pffft.
