RV6 Catted downpipe test Fit Install... PIC Heavy!

Good evening everyone!
RV6 Catted downpipe arrived yesterday and installed Today 06/04/2017. Fit and Finish were top notch. No cracks in welds or missing pieces. Everything arrived perfect and installed smooth aside from my lack of preparation (I'm impatient).

Tools needed for the Install...
Short and long socket sizes - 10mm, 12mm, 14mm and 17mm
12" socket ext, 3" socket ext
closed end/open end wrenches preferable (I don't have any lol)
O2 Sensor socket ( bought at advance for $12) "Necessary"
Phillips screwdriver
Flat head or Plastic tab thingy (forgot what its called) to take out plastic tabs on splash guard towards back end.

Difficulty on scale from a 1 (easy) to 5 (Pain in the arse) i would say a 3 if you have the tools but are unfamiliar and on the ground on your own. 2 with a Lift and air tools.

Came packaged very well.

Everything that came in the box!

Why you need the O2 sensor socket

https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...deed50ebc1.jpg
What the 1/4" O2 sensor socket looks like for those that have never seen one. $12 for the socket lol at Advance Auto parts.

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...70530d7012.jpg
once the socket is out, pull the heat shield off right from the top.

top of the stock manifold. Ridiculously restrictive!

Quick shot of my Hps Cold air intake and where the filter sits for those that are curious.

custom exhaust. 2 1/2" all the way back. 2nd cat was already deleted previously.

https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...6e9ff0e452.jpg
Why custom exhausts are sometimes NOT a good idea. This is why it took so long to install! I will be replacing soon.

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...68f24c6ad6.jpg
That bracket, among others also needs to come off.

Stock Vs RV6. Huge difference. By far the best investment ever.

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...9c5d960707.jpg
Shot of the piece installed. Fitment is perfect. No issues at all and Install was so much easier... except of course for that 1 bolt due to my current exhaust.

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...5b40d9bf3a.jpg
EGR port. matched up perfect.

Sound is up but my exhaust does NOT have a resonator at all and the stock Si muffler I'm running has over 100k miles on it so the packing is shot. Still, sounds great though. I like it for now. I'll be upgrading the exhaust soon.

RV6 DP from the top almost installed.

First Impressions... Mid range is vastly Improved. Off idle part throttle is Def improved. Car feels a lot Peppier and pulls all the way to redline. Cruising is quiet at 60mph and really opens up the motor. Highly recommended. It makes a night and day difference. With a custom tune. This could be a great lil car!

Sounds good. Is your rear hatch garnish plasti dipped? How long did it take to get chipped like that. I just did mine and hope it holds up.

Nice detailed write-up. I wanna do this, but CA smog laws makes me think twice about it.

Omg lol. That was my fault. I bought the wrong paint (not plastidip brand) and despite sanding the paint just didn't apply well. I'm buying the LX garnish from Honda and replacing it.

Thanks. Here in Florida, we don't have emissions testing since 1998 of I remember right. I think you can already get rid of the 2nd cat as it's not monitored by the ecu for smog.

Any reason you went with the catted vs. the non?

ThadCastle 06-06-2017 04:49 PM

Great looking piece, nice to see the aftermarket coming through!

I notice there is an oxygen sensor spacer placed pre-cat. Is there any reason for this? I have only ever needed them after a full cat removal or post cat (if it was an aftermarket high flow).

Is it a space issue?

RV6 hadn't test fitted it yet so I did them the favor. I doubt the hi flow cat vs non cat is gonna make that big a difference.

I had already deleted the 2nd cat prior to installing the RV6 piece. The GK5 brings 2 cats. During the install, both oxygen sensors installed fine with no space issues. Did I understand you right?

Is the O2 sensor spacer necessary if I install this into a stock GK5?

Did the O2 sensor spacer come already installed on the header then? Or are you using it just as a precaution?

Just asking because this seems like a great mod, I just don't want any hassles with NYS inspection. Have had great success with the spacers before though.

Oh... I just realized what you're talking about. It came already installed on the piece. Just screw in the sensor and you're good. I have had no CEL lights so far since the install.

is there any drone on highway speeds, like 60mph?

With my current exhaust yes. I don't have a resonator and my muffler is shot. However, with the stock exhaust I doubt it. I'll try to post a video this weekend, in-car while driving.

Nice install, too much mide to mid high range, sounds tinny. Fart can sounding. Performance in terms of letting the engine breathe better must be way better than stock though!

That has more to do with my current exhaust set up than the piece itself however you're gonna get that deep a tone out of a 1.5L and this engine is neither a high revver or a torque monster lol. I can say that after 2 weeks. It has made a huge difference in performance from low to high.

evilchargerfan 04-24-2018 06:15 PM

interested to see this down pipe with a stock exhaust. hoping the oem exhaust may tone down some of that fart can sound

does anyone else, have this downpipe installed and could share sound clips?

This is mine, but with Catless DP version + stock b-pipe + HKS cool style axle back exhaust. Not so loud in my opinion. I should have an in car cabin sample for the folks later. been meaning to make one.

Cheers!

those of you running the rv6 dp, did any of you get a tune for it?
