Anyone know of any safe dash adhesive? VHB tape isn't working
I recently got a 2016 Fit. I tried to move my old phone mount to the Fit and it just won't work. The mount uses 3M VHB tape to adhere to dash to hold the mount. This worked perfectly in my old car for two years, the mount never budged.
In the Fit however, the VHB tape just won't stick to the Fit dash. Even after letting the mount sit for a few hours with no weight I can remove the mount with my hand, that's how little bond the VHB tape is making with the Fit dash. It def wouldn't support the phone weight while driving. I really don't understand what's so different about the Fit dash that makes the VHB tape useless. Is anyone successfully using any VHB tape on their Fit dash? Anyone using anything similar that's safe that they could recommend? I really want to use this phone mount, but I'm weary about going to other adhesives because I don't want to damage the dash. Part of the appeal of the VHB tape is it removes without any damage (and it did, it let no marks on my old dash). Thanks! |
VHB isn't just one adhesive. you'll need to find the right bond rating.

Could a seller or dealer have 'treated' the 2016's dash with a silicone dressing? That would have reduced the adhesive's grip, for sure.
Not sure how to get that stuff off without potentially marring the surface, though. As usual, PREP IS THE KEY. Perhaps the 3M site has some directions and cleaning suggestions. |
I decided to go with a proclips mount instead, that combined with the 67 west parts will work better than a dash mounted solution with tape.
