2015 Honda Fit Fuel Gauge Display Failure

~70k miles.

A few months ago, my fuel gauge display started going out...intermittently. Pretty much always at least once a trip. Sometimes it starts when I turn the car on, sometimes it's after I've driven 20 miles. The display stays backlit, but all the information (time, fuel gauge, odometer, temp) disappears.

Usually it will stay like that for a good while and then a bunch of gibberish suddenly pops on, as if everything possible was being displayed at once. Sometimes it will go back to showing nothing, sometimes it will go to a good display. Doesn't seem like it's related to temp - happens now in cool or warmish weather.

I was just wondering if anyone else had seen this.

I found another guy on the Internet a couple years ago that had the exact same issue, and the dealership told him it was a bad display (as opposed to a loose wire) and it'd have to be replaced. If so, I'm wondering how much effort it is to tear open the dash and do it myself. Kind of disappointed. This is my third Fit and the first two also had various electrical problems, though nothing I couldn't ignore. Really hard to ignore the lack of a fuel gauge.

honda support sounds like a sham.

Sham24 01-10-2018 07:33 PM

Well, if I do it, I'm going to assume wire first because it's cheaper. :)

I've been kind of hoping it would just go out and die altogether...that way if I fiddle with a wire and it comes back, then I can have proven it was just a loose wire.

Nothing would drive me crazier than to "think" I fixed it and then have it recur.

I am having the same issue with my 2015 Fit. I've noticed that mine does it more when it is cold outside (below 30 degrees). Has anyone found a solution?

Do the odometer and gas gauge read accurately after it starts working again, or is the mileage "lost in time"? I was thinking it would be a minor annoyance at first, but then remembered the odometer is in the same display. I've had old cars in the past with malfunctioning fuel gauges, but would just fill up at a certain distance...not an option, here, I see

krise78 03-13-2018 10:05 AM

Mine does read accurately when it comes back on. The odometer is the main part of that display that I would miss. I can get the fuel range on my touchscreen, so I'm not as worried about the fuel gauge. Also, mine will only go out in the mornings when I drive to work. It has not done it in the afternoons or evenings, and I have not noticed it when the weather is warmer.

FWIW, I’m pretty sure the odometer readings are stored in the computer, not in the display itself.

2015 Fit EX with 89995 miles and I've had the same issue recently. First, it took three tries to get it back completely but when the info does come back it is accurate. Have noticed that it occurred after a period of rain and cold. I believe it is a software issue like the right turn camera malfunction. Here are two pictures I took about a week ago.

Great. Another failure I can look forward to. 😕

+1

Im getting a horse next time.

Yup, that's exactly what it looks like. Mine is still doing it...I was hoping it would outright fail so it'd be easier to troubleshoot, but no such luck. It does seem more frequent in cooler weather than warmer weather. I've seen it happen at 70F+, though...but also, I pay more attention in the morning since I drive in the dark and the display going on the fritz gets my attention.

2015 Fit Cluster

Hi All! I am having the same problem with my 2015 Honda fit LX. This seems to be a temperature related problem. It will go out as the interior of the car warms up. It will then come back on when it reaches full temperature. The Dealer wants to replace the information center at a significant cost to me! Has anyone gotten to the root cause of this problem? I'd very much like to fix it myself (have the skills). I also wonder how many people are having this problem? Is this a factory defect or a "One Of" just effecting just a few of us? Thank You!

Might just take the passage of time, to see how common this defect becomes. But 3 people finding this thread and having the identical symptoms, really isn't a good sign.
Just have to sit back and see how common the complaint becomes as more Honda Fit's age.
Maybe Honda doesn't consider it, but I still consider a vehicle that is less than 4 model years old to basically be "New". Disappointing to see this failure.

Hopefully we get some more details about this issue and find it is resolved with newer models. Looks like the 15-17 LX, 15-17 EX and 2018 sport all have different "meter" part numbers. The clusters aren't cheap. I'm looking to get back into a Fit (18 sport) in the near future so this post caught my eye.

Why wouldn't this be covered under warranty?

When I disassembled the gauge cluster (a bunch of times), everything was pretty much built in, and not modular like a motherboard. The wiring seems to be pretty securely plugged in.

Uncle Gary 04-29-2018 12:40 PM

It would be if it happened within 3 years/36,000 miles whichever comes first. Obviously modern car warranties aren’t long enough considering the complexity and expense of repairs.

Welcome to the age of the throwaway automobile.

Same issue!

Right around 40k my fuel gage gave out and now at 60k I’m still having the same issue. I went to autozone to plug it into their readers and they plugged it into their computer and found ZERO error messages from the computer of the car. Is our only option really to replace the dash?

2015FITEX 10-25-2018 10:43 PM

if you installed a scangauge into the obd port would that tell you the range till empty?

looks like you need to press a button every time you fill the tank
Fuel & Tank Trip Computers

The ScanGauge includes two trip computers based on the current tank of fuel. They include the Current Tank and Tank to Empty. Each trip computer starts automatically when you tell ScanGauge you have filled your tank.
  • MPG for current tank
  • Fuel Used on current tank
  • Tank to Empty
  • Distance Driven
  • Distance Until Empty
  • Hours driven on current tank
  • Hours to Empty
  • Average Speed
  • Fuel Used Cost

x gauge MAY be able to acess this ::ANYONE KNOW???
  • Fuel Level
  • 33F1012F
  • 0441052F0000
  • 2808
  • 006400FF0000
  • FLV
  • Percent

duh....the fuel levels on the touchscreen...sorry!

dsamg07 10-25-2018 10:53 PM

As of right now I’m relying on the low gas indicator light to go on to know I have less than 25 miles left in my tank. Luckily my commute never exceeds 20 miles so I haven’t ran out of gas yet but still I’d like to see how many miles I have without relying on the indicator light

evilchargerfan 10-26-2018 11:57 AM

you can def use the scangauge to do that

I'd be a little nervous doing it, everytime I fill up and scangauge estimates my gals per fill, its sometimes off by 0.1 or 0.2 gals
