Serpentine belt

Anyone changed theirs yet? Tough?

Had to buy one for my son's Jeep at RockAuto, Gates was only $11 bucks so I bought one since I had to pay shipping anyway.

Does yours actually need replaced?
I pretty much expect more than 10 years/100k miles out of these belts nowadays

If you can replace the belt on a Jeep, the Fit should be easy.

Maybe this will help

I'm at 82k miles. The graphic helps. Thanks!

There are a couple of marks on the adjuster that indicate when the belt has stretched.

Does anyone know if the process on the GE (Gen2) Fit is the same? The GE has an auto-tensioner.

Try this for 2nd gen Fit

Our "new" 2011 Sport has 94k miles. Is there a recommended change interval for the serpentine belt and tensioner/idler pulleys? I've had the pulleys catastrophically fail on a car before, on a trip, and it was a mess I'd like to avoid. Wondering if its time to change, and do you change the tensioner at the same time as a preventative maintenance.

Thanks very much! Just what I was looking for.

Not really. "When something goes bad"?

IMO the belt is easy to check, look for many big cracks along the grooved surface.
If you take the belt off you can spin the pulley(s) by hand and listen/feel for unusual roughness.

Most bearing failures will give a fair amount of warning before there's a "spectacular event". The bearing usually makes noise, but a person might need to be pretty observant to new noises to notice a small bearing in the very beginning stages of failure.

OTOH some people are completely oblivious to all kinds of issues as long as they can put fuel in the tank and the car will pull itself down the road.

My GF is one of the latter. Her 07 Fit has close to 250k on it now. I replaced the compressor pulley, idler pulley, and serp belt around 200k, mainly because I was already into the engine for other stuff at the same time.

Just replaced my ‘15 Ex serp @ 130k.

Belt was very hard to remove and replace. The belt is TIGHT! Pinned the tensioner like the graphic shows, wasn’t enough, had to push on the tensioner even more, still was difficult. Belt came off with much much gentle persuasion. Belt went back on using Claycolvin’s method in this thread; https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/2nd-...tine-belt.html

Good Fun!! Lol enjoy

You will need to remove the passenger tire and splash guard. It's actually not that bad. Took me about an hour and half to do.

Yeah, what 4d_POWER said. This was a MAJOR PITA. I'm at 115k, and the belt was 100% toast. Missing ribs, multiple cracks per inch. Hopefully it's better on later models, but I've got an early 2015. I was on a friends lift and it took both of us to get it back on. Him under the car and me on a ladder so we could get the new one over the idler under the alternator.
