2016 LX Unsafe With Poor Defogging

Is it common to have great difficulty in keeping the windshield defogged?

Perhaps the defogging is wimpy like the A/C.

Have changed cabin filter and wipers with genuine Honda parts several times.

Almost seems like a need for a recall.

Always set vent to bring in outside air.

Sometimes jacking around with air temp control helps.

Never had such grief with defogging windshield. Airflow swims decent.

Thanks

I havent had any issues, can you post a video of what your experiencing? (Including the dial settings).

I haven’t noticed that it’s any better or worse than any other car I’ve driven.

I have no way to do videos. Only own a flip phone.

What I do is:

Selector to direct airflow to defrost
Heat varied from hot to cold to find the right setting
Fan speed to 4
Air source to outside, not recirculate

I live in NC which can become quite hot and humid

Thanks

Are you using A/C during the initial stages?

The Fit ventilation is just poor. In order to understand how poor the defrost the system is you have to encounter a wet snow/rainy storm like over a mountain pass. I tried all combinations, AC on/off, air fresh/re-circulation, windshield heater on/off. Windows opened/closed Nothing could get the dense moisture off the windshield no matter what the blower speed or direction was set. The solution? The old fashion way by using a cloth to clear the windshield.

Yes, the A/C automatically engages when you set the system to send air to the window and turn on the fan.

I haven't had a problem with mine, even in snowy or wet days where I'm bringing in wet shoes and driving around.

Thoroughly clean the inside of the windshield, then final wipe it again with a daily newspaper

yah the only time i have issue is when the inside of the glass freezes in the winter. otherwise the defrost seems to work fine.

well, the rear side windows tend to fog up easily when cold outside and u got passengers onboard.

exl500 07-08-2018 03:15 PM

No problems here either.

I know that it's at a low level, but I meant actually engage full A/C.

maybe clean the glass on the inside.. how many times have u cleaned the glass since ownership, op?

I have a 2016 EX, and I don't think that's the case with mine.
Regardless if I set the dial to window, and turn on the fan, I still have to turn on the AC, it doesn't "automatically" engage.

But maybe I'm missing it?
I'll test it next time I take a drive.

No need to pile on...
But I find the defrost to be adequate. I do however keep the inside of the windows clean and I turn ON the AC to defrost.

When setting to defrost, the AC runs automatically whether the AC button is depressed or not.

Some people don't like this feature and you can disable it by popping a wire off a connector if you want independent use.

Does the AC light come on?
Because I swear mine does not.

I still have to physically choose to push the button.

The AC switch indicator does not illuminate, but that doesn't mean it's not running the AC. You can go open the hood and see/hear the compressor clutch engages and the fans run in the normal fashion (provided it's not too cold for the AC system to be enabled)

The AC system is enabled by default in all defrost modes, no indicator light.

Well that explains it.

vinylengraver 07-09-2018 11:39 PM

The AC compressor acts as a dehumidifier.
So that is why it turns on automatically in defrost mode.
If it doesn't, there is no way to remove condensation quickly.
Perhaps this is the issue OP is having...
That or there is water in the HVAC system plumbing.
I had a Civic long time ago where the coolant was leaking from the heater core and the car was fogged up all the time.

I wish it wasnt, some times all you need is a little air- with out the vampiric compressor sucking the fun out of the drive.
