aFe Takeda Intake

Now that the exhaust is taken care of, I think I need this:

Two thoughts on this piece. First, I really hope someone does before/after dyno testing. Advertising hp/tq numbers without one makes me suspect their marketing guys just guessed what it might do. Second, what is the hole at the back for?

Edit- I know there's a chance the stock airbox has something on it to explain the hole in the back, but if someone here already knows it saves me a half hour getting the kids situated before going to look.

well i guess that's where its getting more airflow from. the stock airbox only has the front to draw air from.

I would think it gets more airflow by having more surface area on the filter, and smoothing out the path from the end of the intake tract. Having an opening inside the engine bay makes it not much different from all the short ram setups, drawing hot air in.

I think that's where the stock resonator goes to

This is an interesting set up, the opening in the back is probably there to increase throttle response at low RPMs like a short ram intake would, and the fact that it still mounts up to the front duct means that at speed you'll draw in cool air like the stock system does, so it's the best of both worlds with overall larger flowing diameter. What confuses me is that it still hooks up to the stock resonator, i would have done away with that altogether. This would be good combined with one of those ram air ducts a few members have here.

What's stopping someone from cutting a hole in the rear of the stock air box to have a similar design? Maybe connected to a tube a little lower in the engine bay?

Hairymonkey019 sure as hell did that ... he cut a hole in the bottom of his stock air box

by doing the job .... I'm assuming you mean like, results/HP gains.... Takeda never posted dyno results so .... like someone else already said, these are all just "claims" at this point. and I believe in the youtube video, he mentions there is probably no real gains/he did it so it sounds cool or something along those lines

or.... if you meant .... was hairymonkey able to achieve the same effect as the takeda and increase CFM's .... heck yes .... he has tons of air flow now!

Thanx Evil.... i just saw the vid completly and heard him say it was more for the sound, but he does have a pretty strong point when stating that if any major manufacturer can claim hp and tq gains with systems that are basically what he did, then he COULD be onto something...

I'm considering doing this mod to my stock intake box as well. If I do and happen to notice gains (using my butt dyno), I'll report back

Before u guys go copying that video, know you will increase you intake temps by 40+ degrees and will Definetly lose power. Our transmissions put off alot of heat, cutting the bottom of the box is sucking air from directly over the transmission, during my testing i recorded an increase of 40+ degrees Fahrenheit. Also makes keeping the front cool air duct pointless, air will come through the path of least resistance, if you cut a huge hole in your airbox, it will completely bypass the cool air duct in front, making it dead weight. Aem is the only one so far to show an actual dyno video with increase in power with their intake, and even it still increased intake temps over stock.

I emailed aFe regarding release date. They said ship date will be 7/31. I guess I am getting this sooner than expected.

the price is a bit steep, however it looks like a solid upgrade. the shroud should keep water out, which is a general concern of mine with any aftermarket filter.

please update after it's installed and put through a good rain storm.
