2015 Oil Type
 

I have a 2015 Honda Fit and have always had the oil changed at the dealership but Big O tires is offering a $19.95 special(the dealer is $40 more) What is the correct type and weight for my 2015 Fit? Anything critical about the filter?

Most oil change specials are not full synthetic. Especially at that price. I would not consider using any 0 weight oil that is not full synthetic.

I just used up my last 15400-PLM-A01, so will have to source some before they're impossible to find.

I don't think you're getting full synthetic at $20. For that price it's probably a blend.

They're gonna dump some non-synthetic 0w-30 in there and torque your drain bolt to like 5 ugga duggas

I believe that the required 0W20 is only available in synthetic. If they're planning to use a different grade such as 0w30 or 5W30 then it's probably non-synthetic which would explain why the price ($19.95) they're quoting is so low. Synthetic 0W20, which is what the dealership would be using, is usually quite a bit higher.

AFAIK, Honda dealers use semi-synthetic 0w20 unless you request different. Even then I would feel safer pouring my own oil so I know it's full synthetic.

im not sure if Mobil1 green cap is fully synthetic, but it works well.. been using it on the 2 GE's i had and my current GK. no issue.

The Honda synthetic blend is nice stuff! Only oil that went into my Fit and what goes into the Pilot.

Not all dealers, not exclusively.
I asked my dealer, and I bought a quart, for mid-cycle top ups.
Honda does manufacturer a 100% synthetic 0W-20 oil.
I'm looking at the bottle right now, and it's labeled Ultimate Full Synthetic.
Unless my dealership is lying? They reportedly use this in all their oil changes. In fact, according the the Service Adviser, if I did NOT want full synthetic, I'd have to ask.

Next time you're there check the drum and see what it is. At a certain dealer I frequent, the hose reel out of the ceiling says one thing, but the big drum has something else in it. You pretty much need to see the truck filling the drum and ask the driver what is being pumped.

For me, our Fit has only had oil poured into it by me. I don't trust anything else after what I discovered years ago. Even found that to be true today at a dealer of yet another brand from the previously two mentioned.

I stand corrected. I didn't realize that Honda 0W20 oil is also available in a semi-synthetic (but WHY?). I checked my owners manual and sure enough Honda specifies 0W20 but they don't specify synthetic. They only say ""You may also use synthetic motor oil if it is labeled with the API Certification Seal and is the specified viscosity grade." I'm glad I do my own oil changes so I control what goes into my car.

Yes, I know they could by lying. But at some point you have to have a little trust don't ya?
And actually at my dealership service center, they make a pretty big deal about how all their Oil Changes are FULL SYNTHETIC, it's part of their waiting room, lobby advertising.
I think the invoices they provide say Full Synthetic, and the cost is definitely in the full synthetic range.

Could they be lying? Sure...but I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt here.

I'm not sure that you have to trust them. Do some digging. Valvoline 0w-20 synthetic blend is VERY popular in bulk. Just saying...
