File Under Dumb Questions

After over 3 years of ownership (with Wells Fargo), I am finally asking a question that has been bugging almost from the begging. Both the lane change camera nd the rear view camera produce a brighter than outside conditions, especially duck and night. I can find the camera part numbers but no specs. Infrared? What>

Pretty sure all digital cameras are sensitive to near infrared light outside of the range of what we can see. Generally CCD sensors are more sensitive than CMOS, but it also depends upon the filtering of the sensor as to how well it can see at night. Some filters will block all of the near IR light to obtain better color reproduction and saturation when used during the day. Some CCD cameras are run in black and white without any filters on the sensor to have the best night vision possible. Not sure of the specifics for the cameras on the Fit as to how it is filtered, or if it uses a mechanical cut filter to switch between night and day.
