New-to-me 2017 MT Honda Fit EX
 

So the day after Christmas, I got into an accident and my 2008 MT Honda Fit Sport was too banged up to be fixed. So cue all the apps to help me find a newer car. I ended up buying a used 2017 MT Honda Fit Ex in that dark grey with about 37k miles on it. I got a fair deal but not a steal.

So far the engine seems a little louder. Shifting feels relatively the same. The cup storage seems smaller by a fraction. I do like the new key FOB operations and push-button start. I guess I'm still getting used to it. I still miss my old Fit as I was proud to have put over 263k on it without too many repairs.

Does anyone want to chime in about this model of the Fit? What do you like and don't like about it?

I, too, had a '08 Sport (MT) which was totaled a couple years ago by a red light runner. 150K and on it's 30th oil change. I wound up with a '16 LX CVT to replace it.

My impression: GD had more of a go-kart feel, but it was fairly noisy and harsh. With the stick, it was a bit of a screamer at highway speeds. Can't remember offhand, but 3500rpm at 70mph sounds about right.

GK has much better sound insulation, and ride is more settled, perhaps at the expense of that go-kart feel. But if you're getting more noise out of the 27K GK compared to the 263K GD, I wonder what's going on? Tire noise?

Try doing an oil and filter change. That should help if this was over due by prior owner.
My 2015 MT FIT is not quiet but not annoying even if I shift at high rpms. Its a practical small car that is relatively fun to drive. Wish the clutch could be faster.

I would say that it sounds louder when it is cold and in 1-3 positions. I can't tell if it is because my other car was old and worn, thus not having as much power anymore vs. the newer car is actually louder. The noise level at highway speeds seems to be about the same, maybe. I've been driving it without the music on so I can listen to the car. Even though the car says the oil is 100%, I may get it changed just in case the dealership just reset the gauge instead of actually changing the oil.

I use this car as a commuter car, so I'm willing to make some minor mods to help it perform better in that regard.

If you have any doubts about whether the previous owner actually changed the oil, fairly easy to confirm. Take the dipstick out and see what the oil looks like. If it's clean, I'd assume the owner changed it out.

for the engine noise, check the stock air box for any possible air leaks or signs of poor installation.

at the expense of nvh, I've made my GK5 handle more go-kart-like:

-control arm bushings
-rear beam bushings
-rigid collars
-torque rod mount (poor mans urethane fill)
-coilovers
-rear sway bar
-control arms brace
-light weight wheels (10.9 lbs a pop)

Yeah, those mods may be beyond my skill level/budget. I will take a look at the air box and double check my oil. It seems to be louder in the lower gears. My 2008 MT didn't seem loud at all. Maybe I just got lucky on that car, at least up until the accident.

So after a few maintenance items, I think my car sounds normal now. An oil change (even though the oil life was 100%, I don't trust dealerships), a K&N air filter, and cleaning the MAF sensor with some CRC cleaner. I did get a new cabin air filter too but that will just will just help with my defrost and such as far as I know.

I plan on getting a Blox shifter knob in the nearish future.

I'm getting used to the new ride. The mods I'm mostly interested in is anything to help coax more MPGs out of the car. I have an hour commute to work and put about 500 miles a week on my car. I've been perusing the mileage threads for info.

If I could afford a cosmetic change, it would be to add Mooneyes moon discs but I think I would need to get new wheels to take the Dzus fastener style as those seem to last longer.

K&n didn't do anything to mileage for me. I do the crc maf cleaner every oil change now and it seems to help. I have a similar commute, about 85 miles round-trip. I average low 40s in the winter to 43-45 during warmer months. One suggestion is to run a higher the psi, I run 35 all around with no abnormal wear.

Thanks for the tire tip. I added some air to my tires this morning to see how that will help. I'm using Fuelly to track my MPG but only have a couple of tanks tracked so far. I'm in the low 30s right now. I'd be happy to bring it into the 40s.

Are the Rvinyl Rtint kits any good? It looks like I can get precut tint for around $40 + shipping. I've never applied tint DIY but there's a first for everything. It would save me a lot of money compared to taking it somewhere or if I mess it up, then it will cost me more.
