3rd Generation GK Specific DIY: Repair & Maintenance Sub-ForumThreads discussing repairs and maintenance you can do yourself on the 3rd generation Honda Fit (GK)
I am not a car guy whatsoever, I took my Honda Fit 2015 LX into the dealership and after a $50 diagnostic test they said I need to replace my EGR Valve...and apparently it would cost $1000 for them to do it. I looked up the part number and it is
18011-RBJ-000
My question is, can I basically punch this into ebay and pickup a used part with this specific part number and it will work? I have a friend who can knows cars a bit better and also want to know the difficulty of switching our the EGR valve myself. any advice is welcome, I just got married and need to save that money. My fit is also at 90k miles and out of the warranty period sadly. My initial OBD2 scan I did myself threw P0171 as the error and I read a few threads about the fuel injectors going with a price tag of like $2000. Hopefully the EGR is actually the problem.
I'd suggest a second opinion from a trusted independent shop. My dealer quoted $720 for a repair and the shop fixed it for $39.
As for parts, the K.I.S.S. thread has posts about places to buy parts at lower cost. I recall Hondapartsnow.com (or like that) being much less than the part price the dealer quoted me.
if you're getting a p0171 , how is that in any way related to the egr? if it really is, can the dealer provide that recommendation IN WRITING?
plenty of places to find the part. if none fit your budget, ebay always has something used or generic
lastly, someone on here posted a way to access the Chilton Library / Manual ... once you locate that ... you can pull up a guide on how its done, and you can then gauge how difficult it may or may not be yourself
They gave it to me in writing and tested with an HDS system and snapshots/freeze frames. As well as vacuum apparently. It does not look too difficult to do myself. I’m not sure how the errors relate, the p0171 is system too lean, thought it could be the o2 sensor but read a few threads about fuel injectors issues so decided to give the dealership diagnostic a go. It is an autonation Honda where I bought the vehicle and they have seemed pretty decent to me so far...anyway I found some used ones from newer wrecked fits online for about $70/100 with shipping. Thanks for suggestions and help all
