DIY: Cabin Air Filter Replacement/Cleaning
 

How to replace or clean the cabin air filter in your GK.

Difficulty: Easy, hardest part is step one!
Time required: 5 Minutes
Tools required: None (flashlight optional)
Honda replacement: 80291-T5R-A01

1. Open glove box and clean it out. If you can do this without breaking down and crying, the next steps will be a piece of cake. :wiggle:

2. Press in on the sides near the top of the glove box and swing it down. There is a little bumper on each side:

3. On the filter cover, push in on the tabs on the sides and pull out.

4. The filter can be pulled out. Make note that the arrow is pointing down for airflow. Also there is no "frame" like previous models:

I chose to just clean mine by turning upside down and tapping on the sides. This let loose lots of dead bugs and leaves etc. My GK has about 11200 miles on it and the service interval for the cabin air filter hadn't come up yet. I was just curious to see what it'd look like.

5. Installing the filter is just as easy. Make sure to install with the arrow pointing down.

6. Reinstall the filter cover with the arrow pointing up.

7. Push the sides of the glove box together and push to close. Return junk back into glove box and you're done.

This was great and helped me install the interior filter, but there were no arrows on the filter itself to use as a guide for which side to put up or down. It fit into the compartment more than one way, so I'm not sure if I should be looking for something on either side (they look and feel almost identical with only a slight difference) or if the filter is bidirectional. If there is no arrow on it, does that indicate a bidirectional filter? It's an ATP HA-11, and there is no help on the website. I sent them an email, but have not gotten a response. Thanks again.

I have a 2015 Fit, 25,000 miles. The dealer wanted $60 to replace the cabin air filter, so I opted to buy aftermarket. After researching multiple sites, i bought the FRAM CF11182 filter to replace myself. The air filter came in, but it DOES NOT fit. It hangs out about 1/4 an inch, and the cabin filter wont shut. Am I crazy? Because there are so many websites (including Amazon) that say this FRAM CF11182 will fit my 2015 Fit. HELP!

Changed mine three times. Every time the filter is maybe 1/8 inch out and works out to be a snug fit. No issues after a little pressure to close the door. The filters are so flimsy the door closes with minimal pressure.

Yes, the filter does protrude a bit and you have to put a bit pressure on the door, which pushes against the filter, in order to close the door. My aftermarket filter may have been a tiny bit bigger than the original, thus requiring a bit more pressure. Or perhaps continued pressure on the original, as the months wore on, may have caused it to become compacted, and made the door easier to close? In any case I got the door closed without using undue pressure. Perhaps this is an intentional design, to prevent air from bypassing the filter?

My original filter was placed with the stiffeners along the side, and the bare filter material at the back and at the front. As long as the stiffeners are at the sides, should make no difference which of the other 2 sides is at the front. The airflow arrow should be pointing down. If there is no arrow, I would be reasonably certain it make no difference which side is up. However once you place the filter, if you remove it, you should always put it back with the same side up and the same side down, as you did originally. That is what is most important. Otherwize you will be sucking dust off the filter and blowing it around the cabin! If there is no airflow arrow, I would suggest placing one on the filter. I would use a ballpoint pen as filter paper tends to cause liquid ink to spread out. Write on the stiffener or place a temporary stiffener behind the filter paper to press against when using a ballpoint.
