GK5 Maintenance Diary

* MODS - If this is in the wrong location, please move *

I figured I'd start a diary/log of my maintenance. Partly so I can keep track of my own stuff, but also to share with others what has been done, and at what mileage

Are you also keeping tabs on whether the fuel efficiency of the Fit is changing before/after your maintenance? For example, steady decline in MPG, changed air filter, MPG at xx.x.

evilchargerfan 12-06-2018 02:00 PM

yes and no. not in depth to the tune of "replaced engine air filter, mpg increased to X" .... BUT .... when I do my fuelly logs, I do put notes in there. also, when/if I see big dips in mpg, I immediately would notice and take action if needed.

if I make a change that increased mpg, I try my best to share. Example .... lighter wheels + tires + higher psi = mpg increase. or, roof vortex generators = no mpg change. etc etc.

marmaladedad 12-06-2018 02:39 PM

Ahh, yes, Fuelly. I should utilize that to help me keep track. I am happy whenever I get north of 30 in the Fit - the other two (MDX, Odyssey) average 28mpg....downhill! :D

I hadn't realized that you put a sad Fit back on the road. Was it previously totaled? Nice work getting it back on the road.

That first picture is almost comical. It looks like a bomb went off inside the car and blew the doors, bumper, etc off. Funny and sad at the same time.

evilchargerfan 12-10-2018 06:43 PM

it is indeed, salvage title. a few things I avoid if/when I buy such a car:

-deployed air bags
-water/flood related damage
-anything that touched the motor
-frame damage (non repairable)

in this case, it was just the right amount of damage .... in teh right amount of non critical areas ... to put the bill over a certain total .... which results in a "total loss". IIRC, alot of insurance companies will total out a car if you go over 75% of acv (here in CA anyway)

funny story, my prev car (lexus ct) was 5% away from being "a total loss" by virtue of simple rear ender, which did not deploy air bags .... of the near 20k in damages... a crap ton of it was just labor alone

kenchan 12-12-2018 08:01 PM

huh, i didnt know it was a salvaged car. i did notice earlier on that the silver paint wasnt consistent on the doors but didnt think too much of it. thought maybe a small fender bender watever. GJ on the car.

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...7a8b108703.png

NOTE:
EARLY to the rotation this go around .... this was due to loss of traction, in wet conditions. I noticed the fronts have much less tread compared to the rears, and this will more than likely be the last rotation, until a brand new set of tires are purchased in the near future.

Was the trade-off better handling?

it was unintended. when I made the purchase, I assumed it'd all be the same. I was super wrong

pros:
-less noise / more comfy ride
-cost, $45 a tire

cons:
-bad mpg
