The Very Best tires for Stock Rims
 

I've had my 2015 EX for a month now and am thinking about buying better tires for it. I have read every reference I could trying to decide what would be the best size and brand that would give me the best balance between good MPG, handling, noise and performance in wet high speed driving. I'm in Florida so snow is not a factor at all but in rain most of all. I'm looking at Continental DWS in 205 50r 16 as there has been a few really positive reviews but all were used with aftermarket rims. .So what do you think would be the best size and brand to go on stock rims? I know I can sell the stock tires but I might just put them in the barn for a just in case stash. This is my first Honda, first small car so I hoping to get a little guidance. Thanks!

For tires and cars I always check Consumer Reports. They are pretty awesome source of accurate information. My default the best brand are Micheline, while expensive they deliver more than most of other brands. As for size go for the most stocks like tires.

Just google "consumer reports best tires" and you be in your way.

i would do summer tires if you're living in the south. no need to get all season tires if you dont plan on going somewhere cold.

only things to remember about summer performance tires compared to all seasons
1. They don't last as long
2. they get noisy as they wear. Some get so bad you can barely have a conversation with someone in the passenger seat.

Still can't wait to ditch the factory all seasons for summer tires though. so thin and floaty. Although I swap wheels in the winter for a set with winter tires and use the summers in the, well, summer

Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season Plus in 205/50-16s.

for the last decade, i have been using falken tires for daily driving on a majority of my cars. today i mounted up a set of falken pro g4 a/s sized 205/50-16.

very happy so far. ride is better, and they have more mechanical grip than the stockers. haven't sorted tire pressure yet, but i am close. in the upcomign weeks i will test them in wet and colder conditions, so i will report back then. :popc:

Yokohama s.drives. Amazing tires, they last, and they dont get very noisy has they wear. Ive been using the forever on lots of different cars. Ive even used them on the track thry just keep going. Forget size now but there is a size that will fit on the stock wheels.

rodney, do you have any pics of what the 205/50-16 tires look like mounted on the stock rims?

I have these now in 195s and the road noise is unbearable. Ridiculously loud. Unfortunately, i do not have any other 195 option tires so i am stuck using them.

Rodney... any issues with the 205/50 tires on the stock rims to date? I'm looking to upgrade tires in the near future and 205/50 is what I'd like to use if they don't lead to rubbing issues. I plan to leave the suspension at stock height.

i have 6000 miles on the 205/50-16 on stock wheels. car is stock, with no bu11shit spacers and stock alignment. no rubbing whatsoever.

This or Nitto NT450 if only they have 205/50, brother got 225 50 17 V Rated on his Maxima and its a huge improvement.

wow.. I've been using them on a lot of cars over the last 4 years or so and they have never been a problem. I had a set of sumitomo summer tires for one season and after 10k miles it was unbearable. Although I have always been using wider versions of them. 205+ not sure that matters.

The set I have on my 88 MR2 is like 4 years old now with maybe 20k miles and some track time and they aren't noisy at all. Wonder if they changed something in the last year or so. Last new set I had was on our old mini but I didn't have them long enough before we got rid of the car.

I'll be upset if they get noisy as hell now.

I wonder how the grand touring summer tires are

btw, what size did you end up with? 195/55/16 or 195/50/16?

just picked up a pair of fallen ziex 950's stock tire size
 

i love the tires had them filled with nitrogen and so far so good softer ride better grip and much quieter than the stock crappy tires that lasted barely 28k

Is 205 the max width we can run on stock EX rims without running into any issues with rubbing, ride quality.

On OEM rims, not sure if 205 is the max without rubbing. But the 205/50/16 would be the closest to the 185/55/16 and others have shown that it doesn't rub. REF measurement.

After some lookups:

1. OEM rim = 16x6 and +53 offset.
- 6" width = max tire width would be 205, with ideal width being 185, 195, and minimum 175. Ref for rim/tire/calculator:

2. Looking at others' posts in the forum, you will also noticed that 16" rims with +40 offset using 205/50/16 would rub when .. whoopdedoo.

So yeah, if you don't want bulging out tires and potential rub, it does seem like the 205 would be max on the stock 16x6 rim.
