19 Fit CVT Change

I recently did a drain and fill on my CVT transmission on a 2019 Honda fit. This car does not have a dipstick, just a fill plug that I was able to access by simply removing the battery and using a long funnel. I went to the dealer to purchase the correct fluid and they gave me 4 quarts telling me that's what I needed. When I did the drain & fill, I put all 4 quarts in. Subsequently, I took a look at the specifications in my manual and it specifies 3.6 quarts. Is that extra fluid going to present a problem? . If so, what would be the best way to remove the excess?I know I should've looked at the specs before I did the job and will do so in the future. Thank you for having this form.

Indeed.

There are three orifices on the CVT: A drain, a fill, and a level/overflow plug. You fill until it comes out the overflow. That's the proper level. (make sure the car is on a level surface...)

You don't just dump fluid in. Yes, the extra fluid can very much cause problems. There are instructional videos posted on this forum and on Youtube. I suggest a search and suggest not driving it until you fix the level.

Thanks very much. I put the car on the lift to get it level and removed a little fluid from the fluid level plug on the side. . The Plastic pan on the underside is a bit of a pain. How necessary is that thing? I wonder if I should remove it to make for easier servicing once the car is out of warranty.

Well, there are a number of people around here that have had that tray fall off and didn't bother replacing it. No reports of ill effects.
