Smile Bargain Fit Interior Accessories from Costco

Hi All,
This post adresses some previously posted Q & A's. One member asked "how do i clean my dash/how do I keep it clean?". Another member asked how to protect the flat surface of the rear bumper, and are the bumper appliques from Honda worthwhile.

In the auto accessories section of Costco.com, there are two high quality accessories that cover those questions. One is the "Bumper Bib" that is available from MANY catalogs and web sites. I paid a whopping $15.00 for mine. This is a heavy duty padded vinyl (black) that fastens with velcro to the inside bottom hatch opening. It also works well as a cargo cover for the trunk area, but is meant to be drawn over the bumper when needed to protect when loading cargo, and to keep mud/snow off your clothing in bad weather.

For the dash, Costco's vendor Coverking offers both velour and carpet dash covers custom made for the Fit and almost all other cars in a large number of colors. The price is insignificant at $20.00, and the quality and fit are worth easily twice the price.

Since modern plastic dashboards no longer crack from UV light like they used to, some of you may equate dash covers with archaic affectations like fuzzy dice hanging from the rear view mirror or dingle balls hanging around the rear window on a '63 Chevy low rider. But I bought mine to eliminate glare from the shiny dash surface, to provide an easy mount for my radar detector (stick the hook side of velcro to the bottom of the detector and then just set it on your dash cover- it won't move until you pull it loose), and MOST OF ALL, to elimate lint from collecting on the dash from static electricity.

I bought the carpet version (short nap polypropylene) and found the fit to be exact. It comes with velcro fasteners but they don't seem to be necessary. The black cover looks great on my BOM Fit.

Coverking also makes waterproof nitrile seat covers for the Fit in about 6 colors for anyone interested- just go to www.costco.com and have a look.

Happy Holidays---
Dave

Size of bib and version of dash cover?

Looks very interesting. I only saw one size of the bumper bib, which said it was for an SUV. Would that be too big? Also, which version of the dashboard cover? (With or without cut-outs) The site did not explain the difference with regards to the Fit. Thanks.

jake95825-
I Emailed Costco asking what was meant by "center cut-out" and got no answer, so I ordered the "without" version, knowing that I could return the cover to a local Costco store for a refund if it did not fit. I still do not know what the mfgr. means by the cut-out, but you should order the "without" version for your Fit.

You can buy the "Bumper Bib" from a lot of on-line vendors, and there is what would seem to be a smaller size for cars. The SUV size that I bought from Costco is slightly too wide for the Fit hatch, but it still works. I cut the velcro strip that sticks to the inside hatch bottom surface (just above the vent slots) so that this strip ends just where the hatch opening starts to curve upward. When I attach the "bib" to the permanent on-car strip, there is some extra slack bib area gathered around both sides of the hatch opening, but the bumper is still protected, mud/rain stays off your pants, and there is plenty of material inside the car to cover your trunk area cargo. Keep in mind that this thing only costs $15.00. I may use my wife's sewing machine to stich a reinforcing curved seam on each side where the bib gathers at the curvature of the hatch opening, and then cut out the curve just outside the stitched seam. This way the cut-outs will allow the bib to fit around the upward curving hatch sides and lay flat.

Hi Brian-
I will post photos soon. I am still getting used to imageshack.com and the manipulations involved in posting photos. However, see my next post- there will be photos of some more Costco Fit bargains.
