It's always something. Our 2018 Fit Sport (66,xxx miles) just started making a very ugly rattling sound when the engine was cold on start up. It would always go away when warm and it didn't really effect the car's performance in any way. We finally had enough of it the other day and had it inspected over at our local Honda dealership. They came back with the VTC actuator going out. A more common problem on the earlier pre-face 3rd gen Fit's but for whatever reason it went out in our facelift version also. They quoted us almost $1,400 in repair costs but luckily we have an extended powertrain warranty through that dealership (where we bought the car new) so we got a huge discount on the repair. But it was still around $265 after tax. And no there is no recall on these parts from Honda sadly for the facelift 2018-20's.
Next we have to fix the water leaking into the interior coming from the insides of the doors past the door seals. It looks to be coming in from in from the upper felt "windowscrapers" trim and down the inside of the door, it then comes out between the door panel and steel door frame. Which then drips the water past the weatherstripping and right onto the plastic shelf and down onto the carpet. Where it actually puddles up, so its a bit serious of a problem living here in the NW. Not sure why this problem came out of nowhere. But I did see a video on youtube on a guy repairing this same issue with all weather barrier tape being placed in all of the doors in certain places. So that is next on the list for repairs once the car is back from Honda.

Glad to hear you are getting it addressed.
Also, if you have a warranty, doesn't that usually mean the dealership/manufacturer will cover the whole cost?
When I had it done on my 2016 earlier this year, the Hondacare warranty (from the dealership/manu.) covered the whole cost - mind you, it was also in for the HFP suspension upgrade (supplied by me) as well as an alignment.
So technically I guess it was "covered" by warranty on the VTC actuator, but they still screwed me over on the suspension upgrade cost, so I guess I did pay for it despite what the invoice says.

This isn't a Honda warranty, we are over on the mileage for that to work. It's an aftermarket warranty (on certain main parts, not every part was covered) that the dealer gave us as a signing bonus when we bought the car new. It came with free lifetime oil changes also. Both freebies have saved us a ton of money so far so I can't complain.
I think its safe to say all 3rd gen have the vtc rattle, I have 2017 and it started to do vtc rattle not very often. im still under powertrain and ive been recording start up vids since the first diag the dealer couldnt duplicate the vtc rattle. Ended up getting charged for diagnosis
We live south of Knoxville TN, winter weather isn't too bad 'round these parts. I used to work nights, car ('15 LX) is garaged at home but was parked outside my workplace for 12+ hours overnight (depending on how chaotic the shift was, , former nurse). Last year, heard the VTC rattle maybe twice, probably the same the year before. Have had no water leaks, was bought used, CPO, in '16, have had no problems whatsoever......I wonder if the previous owner had a lot of "problems" fixed and got tired of it and traded it in. No outstanding recalls, is relatively low mileage - original owner put almost 40,000 miles on it in a year and a half, my commute has always been pretty short, standing at about 70,000 miles right now....not bad for a '15.....still drive it frequently enough to get the engine good and hot, drive out to GSMNP or something for fun = we're not far from The Dragon either. Never had a drop of water in the interior other than what dripped in the open window with rain or dribbled offa my shoes/clothes. I really cannot complain about the weather here, yeah it's hot in the summer, but winters are mild, might get a few dustings of snow a year (way worse out in the mountains), and our city sprays the roads with brine solution pre-storm - we used to live south of Detroit, our kids got mad when we moved down here and swchool never got closed for "snow days".....LOL To the original poster, I wish you the best getting it sorted, my friend. Will be interesting to see if the VTC rattle exists in my wife's new HRV come winter, would like to think Honda has it sorted by now....who knows
