Is it worth the trouble to replace a Fit Sport stock radio?
Is it worth the trouble to replace a Fit Sport stock radio?
(Hopefully this is posted in the right area)
I have a sony cd/mp3 stereo that was in my truck (it has usb, 1/8 input & an ipod interface plug that allows the stereo to control & charge the ipod). I was wondering if YOU think it's worth the trouble to install this or should I just use my ipod charger (cig.lighter powered) & a 1/8" cord and just rock the stock system.

a) On one hand I could argue that it's distracting to be tempted to take my eyes off the road or stop if my ipod is not controlled w/ the radio.
b) On the other hand it is just another reason for someone to break into my car to steal my head unit
What do you think?

The dash kit for the Fit isn't cheap so even though you already have the radio it's a lot in parts. The harness, antenna adaptor, and dash kit cost around 80-100 depending what you get.
Plus install, unless you DIY. Which isn't to bad at all.

I usually do my own... just haven't ever done it to a 1 year old car before...
I had to change out my head unit, or at least, it was the cheapest way for me to continue my Sirius subscription. It was either port my Kenwood w/built-in Sirius receiver for the cost of a dash kit, or buy another receiver to use with my factory head unit, and waste the cost of the Kenwood.
My car was two weeks old, BTW. Never looked back.

Even installing it yourself the parts are still 40+ for the cheap kit and 100+ for the better one.
This price you listed is incorrect, I paid $50 for my scosche kit and it came with the harness and antenna adapter. Shipping was $20 more (to canada) I found this deal through an ebay store.
Thats a great price for the Scoshe kit!!!
IMO it's not really worth it, unless your putting in a good quality head unit with good EQ tuning options. With the head unit you have and the price of the kit,etc you might get marginally better sound. If the sound of the stock system is good enough for you. Just use your Ipod with the aux in, in the car. Setup some playlists before hand, plug it in, start the playlist and go.
Just say no to sony headunits.. sell it on ebay and get some cash.. if you're going to put a headunit in.. go with an older alpine with eq.. like cda-9813-15? from ebay.. for me it's always worth it to replace stock.. just like nice sweet speakers.. so clean.. set aside 1000 bucks.. and have one of your friends install it
.. i'm going with focals components in fronts CA1? and coaxials in rear.. off ebay.. they're still waiting on the shelf for me

I replaced my OEM unit with a Blaupunkt MP35 and it sounds hardly any better. I now have some EQ curves to choose from which were sorely needed. Other than that, it doesn't really sound any better. The OEM unit is not bad.

i put in alpine 9887.. significant improvement.. didn't even get that eq tuner.. but works out fine for me.. last car had alpine 9811.. it was on a set up of polk momo's comps.. fronts.. and infinity kappas 6x9.. i changed out to a sony with blackout face cuz i liked the look better.. and had gotten good deal on ebay.. i listened to it, didn't like it.. tried to tune the heck out of it.. still not really better.. it just seemed like you loss a "chunk" of detail to the sound.. so it went back on ebay.. if you're really into sound.. get alpine.. <-- biased alpine consumer
