Honda New Car Care Clinic (Long Read)
Honda New Car Care Clinic (Long Read)
I went to this event at my dealer (Koons of Manassas) last night. We met all the service people, asked lots of questions, and had the opportunity to go into the garage and see each model up on a rack. I was one of only two Fit owners there.
I asked a lot of the questions I have seen raised here. My service guy (Chris) did say the same thing about seat covers - don't use them because of the side curtain airbags. Neither I nor the other Fit owner have had a problem with the fuel sloshing sound, but I asked and he said he hadn't heard any complaints.
Chris said Honda recommends an oil change at 5000 miles, but he said he would do it at 3750. He also said not to use gas additives because it could mess up the engine.
Both myself and the other Fit owner told him we were getting lower gas mileage than we expected. Chris said it probably will get better after the break-in period, but if there is an issue with the Fit's gas mileage, Honda will defintely know about it from us Honda owners and hopefully do something to rectify the problem.
Lastly, I asked about my wiper noise. Chris said to clean them (which I already did) and if that doesn't help, come back in and they would see what they could do.
All in all, it was a very informative night. I came away feeling that my dealer was going to be there if I had any issues with my Fit, and I also got a car care kit with all kinds of goodies to clean and care for my Fit.

This is the kind of thing more dealers should try to do.
Back in 2000 when I bought my Ford Ranger the salesman gave me my invitation to the same kind of event at the Ford dealer: held near the end of the month for all the folks that had bought that month. The really big incentive were the drawings. One for whatever service; another for another service; and the biggie: either one months car payment or (if paid for in cash) $300. Service writers and technicians were present to answer questions, etc. Needless to say a well attended event.
