Just what I was hoping for.

 

I am more interested in the side impact crash rating, which is yet to be released.

 

I am not suprised. Honda has a crash test facility that is leader in the world. They simply have good engineering. I would have bet the fit would have exceeded all expectations for safety. Well, I did buy the car before seeing a fit and before may 20th

 

Can't wait to see the side-impact rating. 5-star is pretty rare, so I'd guess it gets a 4 for front and rear.

Given the fact Honda put in side-curtain airbags and beefed up the door structure for the US/Canadian model Fit, I expect reasonably good scores for both the NHTSA and IIHS side impact tests.

I've been posting the latest Fit articles on the "Front Page News" thread. Just after the 5 star rating article came out, there was a photo of a Fit involved in a traffic accident and it held up well. I posted it along with a couple news items on the Fit vs. its competition. Now that the crash test results are out, that should be another basis for comparison.

 

Called State Farm today and was told my Fit insurance is down $18 for 6 months, and also that there might be another adjustment.

If you're wondering why there are no side tests yet... it's because there aren't any side tests yet. Looks like the NHTSA is having trouble getting Fits like the rest of the continant :P

Anyone else notice the side airbags going off on the frontal crash?



WTF? I thought they weren't supposed to deploy in a frontal crash.

 

I think they may also deploy in a serious frontal accident. This helps when the head rebounds off the front airbag. I've seen images where the head rebounds right into the pillar!

I cant tell if the side torso air bags went off also.
