It took a month to get my license plates and to my horror, they're fugly. There was a 50th Anniversary of Statehood plate that JUST became discontinued, which was also ugly but not quite as bad as I what I received. My previous three cars all had the Gold Rush series plates. I always found them to be attractive as far as license plates go. So now my Blue Sensation has these stupid golden with blue text plates. Argh. My boyfriend and I thought about getting personalized plates, but they're not enough of an improvement, IMO. Alaska is license plate challenged. See the samples below...

I like it. It's simple. Definitely better than the new license plate from Texas. I don't know how, but somehow I got our old style. I eventually plan to get a personalized one with my school on it.

 

wow, i think new mexico also has some yellow ugly plates.

they should just make blank background plates for every state.

 

Please nothing can compare with the 2011 plates we Nebraskans are getting next year.

I plan to spend the extra $70 to get some Nebraska Cornhusker Spirit Numeric Plates next year, just so I don't put that ugly s**t on my car.

The husker plates are found Here at the bottom of the first page. They are so much better!

 

I have never really paid much attention to plates as far as good looking or not. Every car has to run them so what ever, I just wish MN dint have to run the front plate as well

I dont mind are new plate, only thing that really changed is they are printed not stamped

 

It seems many states are aesthetically challenged when it comes to plates. Maybe they should be clear.

Here in Ontario, if you order a personalized plate it looks exactly the same as the regular series plates (white with blue letters). However, you choose the combination at a nice price of $235.25 (up to 8 characters). If you want a customized combo w/ a small graphic (could be a cdn flag with your wording) it's over $300.

It's so expensive here. I keep debating whether or not it's worth it. I really want a customized plate but I can't justify the cost.

 

Colorado requires a front & rear plate, but if you lose the front they don't do anything--the rear is the important one--that you must have. Is that true in MN, too?

On the bad side, you have to have one on front. I'd much rather put something custom up there... I'll probably switch my registration to Florida in a few months so that I can not only put what I want on the front (maybe another Florida plate just for the fun of it) but also pay less in fees and register for two years at a time.

 

Yeah, only $30 for the basic ones. I think it was $60 to $75 for the University plates, Troop support and Veterans. Some of those require a renewal fee to keep.

We also require an untagged plate on the front, but, in addition, there's a colored sticker that goes on the windshield to show New Car (Yellow), I/M Passed (Green), Seasonal (Red) and Diesel (Grey). About the size of a credit card.

Some of our police cars wear a logo made by a school student. Large "Anchorage" letters where the letters look like they were cut from a picture of the downtown skyline. Very cool. This kid should be doing license plates, too. And not in the "inmate" sense.

 

And even Martha Stewart would wrinkle her nose at those UK plates. Good grief.

 

For what it's worth, my opinion of an automobile was never affected by the particular license plate that it had on.

 

But, to the owner, it's like a piece of Jewelry.

 

Nebraska requires the front, but it is a secondary offense for not having one. To get a ticket for it, you must first be pulled over for something else. Same with our seatbelts. Cannot be pulled over for not wearing your seatbelt.

We require a front plate and thank goodness no stickers on our windshield.
All we have is a small sticker on our rear license plate. We can either renew it for one year or two years. It all depends on whether or not an emission test is needed. The fee is the same, $74 for one year, or $148 for two years. I just renewed for 2 years so that they don't have to bother me again for a while, lol.

 

There's a simple solution to the ugly plate problem.... move. I've always liked UKs long plates, but looking at them like that, they are rather ugly.
