DIY rear sway bar
DIY rear sway bar
Looking at pics of sway bars on the internets, I thought they looked pretty easy to make. So, I got some material and had at it. I will post cad files of the parts i made if anyone else wants a go at it on monday when I get back to my workstation. I machined the mounting plates out of .375 steel plate and the bar itself is .750 inch 4140 steel. A little larger than 19 mm, but only a .05 mm or so. I had to bend the bar twice because I am a cnc guy not a fab guy lol. I have a few pics I took with my phone. Once I got it all mocked up under the car I tacked it together then finished it out off the car. Once I got it on there, I was impressed. What a difference. Turn in on the car is much more crisp and it fixed the whole weight transfer wallowing about. The wife and I just traded our previous cars for a couple of base fits and now she wants one for her car lol.

Yeah, I really like it. The wife wants one on hers after she drove mine. Really changed the cars behavior in cornering. Here is a pic of the sway bar end plates I made with dimensions for the holes. If anyone needs, contact me and I will email you the cad files if you want.
Ha, yeah. If anyone wants one let me know and I will see what I can do. I am thinking of making another one that has aluminum end plates and an adjustable bar. Haven't gotten any further than thinking though lol.
Well, the wife loved how mine drives with the homemade sway bar so i am making another one. Did some modifications to the design to lighten it up a bit, here are some pics of the mount plates.

Nice work, neighbor!
Nice job on the CNC programming... Keep doing stuff like that and you're going to make the aftermarket mfg's nervous!
(That's a compliment from an engineer with a fabrication history
)
BTW, you mentioned racing team - what kind? Road Atlanta, Lanier Speedway, or Atlanta Dragway in Commerce?
