well i had class at 8am and on my way down 59 for illinois people I hit a deer.
it sucks cause i was 15 minutes away from the school and it happened at 7am so i wasnt in no rush or speeding. I was doing 45 in a 50 on a 2 lane road when all of a sudden I see in the corner of my eye a deer right straight into my path. here is the aftermath!

damn same thing happened to me except the deer ran into me. It hit right on my driver side door. I had to pay a $200 deductible and $4553 later is was fixed. Sad thing is I had new car insurance if the damage exceeds 5 grand I just get a new car. If i would have known It was going to be $500 short I would have added a few bumps and bruises

you guys should look up what's the difference in your premium between a small deductible and a large deductible....

If you're going to get it...you might as well do out the math.

For Geico for me, comprehensive. When I was working out the numbers I remember it was something loike
I think a $1000 deductible was ~$30 /6mo
but the $50 deductible was $60/6mo
(i may have gotten the numbers wrong)

So I was like, what is my thought pattern to get the $1000 option?
If I'm already in the mindset that I might end up using this insurance, which is why I got it;
might as well get the $50 one.

I think i did it out and it would have take like 6years of premium differences to make up the difference between $50 and $1000. So if my thought pattern was I am getting this so in the next 6years I might need to use it; then might as well get the $50 deductible.

BTW a month back, the front windshield cracked (too large to patch), which would have cost $400 on the invoice; but was only $50 for me. If you had $1000 or $500 deductible, or even $250 deductible, basically you aren't actually "covered" numerically for stuff like this.

So really think what it is you are paying for the concept of "insurance" or actual insurance.

Man that sucks and looks pretty severe. I recently came across a herd of Tule Elk that where hanging out at the side of the road and I decided to turn around and not chance it with having one of them charge the car. I stopped and watched the elk for awhile and sure enough 2 of them started fighting and took it over onto the street.

As for the insurance I feel your pain just having had to pay a $500 deductible for damage suffered when someone hit it while it was parked. Thankfully that was still considered collision and not comprehensive. However after that I had my comprehensive lowered to a $250 deductible and as Raytseng pointed out it was only another $30 or so for 6 months. Worthwhile IMO.

Always read the insurance fine print. I didn't I. The past, but when I started ride a motorcycle a buddy helped decipher it. Basically got awesome coverage for a mediocre rate

That sucks, glad you are fine though. Always crappy when there isn't anything you can do to avoid the accident.

Same thing happened to me on the way home from a band gig at 3:00 AM a couple of years back. I saw the first deer cross the road about 300 yards ahead, and immediately hit the brakes (deer almost always travel in pairs) and started looking for the second deer. He jumped out into the road about ten feet in front of me, and I nailed him dead center! Fortunately, I had slowed to about 20 MPH by then, and the deer bounced neatly off the center fo the hood, flipped end over end, hit the ground and took off running without missing a step. Freakin' unbelievable!

The damage looks remarkably similar to what happened when I hit a deer a few years ago, except my windshield was unscathed. Here's pics of my damage:
https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/2nd-...tml#post853599

Mine cost almost as much -- about $4500 out of pocket, plus my deductible. Since it looks like at least one fender is getting replaced on your car, you should make sure they spray whatever undercoating material they're supposed to use on the bottom of the fender, and check your door sills for overspray when they're done (they'll probably have to do some painting of both front doors to match the color of the hood and fenders). Missed both of those on my car .

And I have it on video so I can relive the moment over and over again

Ack, that was a typo!

I meant to say, it was $4500 covered by insurance, plus $500 out of pocket for the deductible .

The irony of this is if you hadn't slowed down you wouldn't have hit the second deer. However it could have easily turned out the other way also (slowing down saved you from collision). Deer are so unpredictable.

I don't even like to think about deer. 80% of my driving is on a motorcycle and Texas is overpopulated with deer from border to border. Especially riding at dusk and dawn, I am always scanning the woods, brush and treeline alongside the road. Very scary!

so i got my car fixed ill post up pics in a couple days ill be busy with work.

but someone had replaced my radar that i left in my glove box. My radar is just a cheap cobra but it does the job and talks. They left me with a pos that just lights up cobra. they are closed at the moment but i left a voicemail to the district manager and called the number on the card that is supposed to be the office but they are closed and someone else answered and said they would have the general manager of the store call me back. im so heated right now.

they left a cobra xrs9345 mine is a cobra xrs 9430. i have some pictures of it in my car but its kind of hard to prove it is mine. Mine is also green which im sure i have some pictures of it being green while the one they left in the car is red. how can i handle this. They also forgot to get me my red emblem they said they would order it and i gave them the part number
