Best Drum Shoes?

Hello, I have been using the forums for information for a while now, (Thanks everyone!), but since i have not been able to find an answer to my question, I decided to register and ask.

Forgive me if this has been answered or discussed, I tried to look.

What shoes are you all using for the backs? I was looking at something a little more performance oriented (its a DD with no track days, but I like the piece of mind in knowing my parts will hold up to anything that may happen on the road), and I came across these:

at $99 for a 4 piece set, the price is pretty up there. Does anyone have experience with these? Does anyone recommend anything else?

There is a Porterfield rear shoe for our cars. Some one did an install and review here: Porterfield R4-S - Unofficial Honda FIT Forums

Honestly... I Think the rears look fine in the 3rd pick... but there is no solid before/after.

On my recent brake "upgrade" I just did front pads... I am feeling out the new "brake bias" since then, and honestly... Don't plan to touch the rears any time soon. Maybe some more AutoX seat time next month will change my mind, but we will have to see.

at $99 for a set of performance shoes... does not seem too steep to me.

Interested in how this would effect rotation on trail braking with less aggressive pads in the front, if at all and when do the rear brakes actually come into play? Do they actually help out at all and in what situations would these shoes make a difference?

Would it be like changing the brake bias with less aggressive pads up front or am I giving these pads too much credit?

Just buy the cheapest shoes that are ceramic based. Semi-Metallic SUCKS!!

I forsee the fit's rear drums lasting just as long as any other small honda. Over 80k miles.

Just pop the drum off every 15k miles or so and spray some brake cleaner on the inside of the drum and wipe the excess debris off. It will make the assembly last longer

That'd be great, I anxiously await his response, thank you for asking

I would be afraid it'd be too much with a short wheelbase but I am curious.

mmm... only theoretical... something like EBC Green or Hawk HPS up front and those Porterfield street in the back. I don't know the initial bite of those porterfields in comparison to those pads, but you get the idea.

I am assuming the race pads won't bite much until their heated up and by that point street pads might be on their way down and would make for a hairy situation.

Just thinking out loud and may be dumb

Unfortunately, not much of a review.. hard to find much anything on these parts really..

Agreed... not anyone I know personally has ever replaced there rear shoes LOL... I'm teying to get a few more experienced folks to give my Fit a go at the next round to give me some feedback on the current brake bias with Hawk HP+ up front and the OEM 75+K shoes out back Lolol

Fwiw, the one lap of America crx, which placed 10th in a sea of gtrs, vipers, vettes, and other heavy machinery, ran hawk dt60s up front, be porterfield drums in the rear...

While he is much lighter than us, the severity of break use was pretty heavy duty... The only thing he changed afterwards were his front pads to dtc70s...

I followed that journey closely! And yea, they had some pretty severe brake use at 155+MPH at places like Daytona. EPIC to see a little K swapped CRX out there with the "heavy metal"

And yea, they were talking about maybe using a different pad next year... Sounded like sticking to Porterfield stuff all around... But then I saw a new FB group for the Hollis's new car.... Sounds like next year they will be in there GT3

^ yup! that's what he and his wife told me when i saw them at the tire rack dry skid pad... kinda sad to see that it won't be competing at the one lap anymore, but andy is such a damn good driver, that gt3 should be put to good use

i'm planning on getting into that event in several years... should be a good time!

Wouldn't make a difference. My left foot is not educated to perform any trail braking that will increase lap times. Worried about rotation? Try running harder tires in the rear, a bit more air, and brake on turn in but, carefully. I've spun more that a few times trying this so, the old Star Specs are heading to the rear and new Direzza II's are put on the front. The Fit relys on corner speed off throttle like most cars. If your wheels are not straight you can't mat the loud pedal.

So you're saying they wouldn't make a difference at all or there would be no benefit?

How about brake AND gas on turn-in? lol

Thats called left foot braking and its one of the best ways to lower your autocross time if you get good at it.
