2009 fit sport - SRS harness replacement
2009 fit sport - SRS harness replacement
My tail lights were not working and the Air bag indicator shows it is not working. Dealer inspection revealed the SRS harness was eaten by some rodent or squirrel or whatever. Dealer says the replacement would cost me $1200+ because it is related to airbag issue and Honda requires them to replace it completely.
Wow .. this is too expensive ... is there cheaper way to deal with this.

Also you might want to post this in the GE (2nd gen) forum, as this is for the 1st gen GD Fit's.

First off, I'm sorry to hear about your issue. Secondly, did the dealer specify that the ENTIRE SRS harness be replaced or just the replaceable sections that were indeed damaged?
If memory serves me right, the SRS harnesses and other SRS components are considered a "controlled part" so getting one outside of Honda may be hard to do just for the record... Best of luck getting one.

Ive ordered airbag related parts in the past for older hondas, I see no reason to believe they changed their ways.
If it was chewed up, find a shop who is good at wiring, and have them take a look. if its repairable, then its a matter of labor and perhaps cost of a few feet of wiring to fix it.
Good luck! I would hesitate to pay honda 1200 bucks. That is too damn much for a harness swap. Hell a brand new engine harness isnt even half that, and that harness is far more complicated in design (not install)

Thanks all. Still in search of some auto body shop to take my car to. Meanwhile I called my insurance, they said they could cover for the damage only after the deductible of $500. Still ...
I believe you can get a harness for cheap at the junkyard, just get the SRS wiring harness out of a wrecked Fit (even if the airbags are deployed, cause you only need the harness right?)
I don't know how easy it is to replace though. I've never done it myself but I know my dad was in the business of buying and rebuilding salvaged cars and selling them. He used to get all his work done by the body shop. That's why I recommended going to a body shop, and the fact that many body shops do interior work as well and that includes SRS airbag replacement, etc.
500 dollars is a whole lot less than what the dealer is asking.
