Price of new Fit from dealer...

Thank you for fast responses to my questions!

How low do you think a dealer can be talked down in price, say on an automatic sport?

I'm getting my 5spd Sport for $200 over invoice, plus all accessories at cost. It can be done, but it's not easy. It helps that this is my 3rd car from this dealer (wife's 2003 Accord and my 2002 S2000).

Good luck.

If you go through the Costco auto buying program you might get $100 off. I've heard of free floor mats in at least one case.

Most people feel themselves lucky if they can get a Fit in two months or less at MSRP without a bunch of overpriced dealer pack items such as paint sealant, pin stripes and fabric protection.

When showing me the price when I ordered mine, I saw the dealer do a little -$800 thing off the MSRP. My car is due in at the end of the month.

800 off is below invoice as the car only has 300-550 markup. I call BS

This $800 thing off MSRP reminds me of what I saw walking through a Honda dealer in Temecula, CA. I've got a Silver Sport M/T on order with a build date of 9/16. Thing is, I've never seen a Fit up close or sat in one. When visiting relative in Temecula, I saw this white base Fit on the lot and went into look at it. It had a big $1500 off sticker on the windshield. Wow! $1500 off. Upon closer inspection, the car also had a 2nd sticker next to the manufactures sticker that had a $1000 "market adjustment", $1995 for some "cheesy" looking 16" wheels and several other dealer add-ons (paint protection, ...). Hmmm.... Bottom line was $1500 off the "dealer" sticker price of about $18,500 on a BASE white A/T Fit. $1500 off? Yeah, right !!!!

BTW: I'm buying mine @ MSRP with an agreement to buy $500 of accesories from the dealer's parts department. Dealer was, IMO, up front and honest about it. He said they don't mark up the Fit's enough and that's how they make money. My dealer doesn't even stock the Fits they get allocated. They've traded all of them to other dealers for Civic's they can sell w/a higher profit margin.

remember, MSRP price isn't what the dealer paid, they get so much money from rebate and other program from Honda. I bought mine $350 below invoice, only because i was willing to purchase the extended 8 years warranty.

which they added the 350 back into. This car is a very unique situation for dealers as there really isn't that much profit in it. total including holdback for us is less than a grand and after paying the sales person it is close to 750. so there isn't really any room to haggle.

I got mine for 500 over msrp and felt it was a good deal, I wanted one then and couldnt wait a few months for it. Call the internet sales manager, the usual mark up for that dealer was 1000

I paid MSRP for my BOM A/T Sport on 9/2/2006 in Victorville, CA

The only one on the lot...I haggled a ton and started $1500 below MSRP with my 1st offer...and still ended up paying MSRP

I did get the Floor Mats and 2 Oil Changes included (that's about all my haggling could muster!) and I did purchase an Extended Warranty after about 30 minutes of being "pitched" by the Finance guy....got the 6 year / 100k warranty for $1075...not bad, but could have done better on the net (so check around before you buy it!).

I may end up canceling the extended warranty though, I'm just not sure at this point...you have 60 days from date of purchase to do so (read your contract) for a full refund (payable to your finance company on the balance due).

Love my Fit (even though it's supposed to be the wifes car!)

Paid MSRP and then some. The dealer loads the cars with accessories. I said okay, I'll pay MSRP and buy some accessories, but the accessories I want not the ones you are pedalling. Window tint, floor mats, RB applique, Music Link. Did get $100 off the tint. Deposit on 7/29, mfg. date 8/3, delivery on 9/6. Maybe could have done better...but happy as I could be am I. Dealer kept all promises. Fit Sport NBP MT.

Both my wife and I plus my father-in-law paid sticker for our Fits. If you have a relationship with a Honda dealer (have bought more than one vehicle, sent them customers, etc.) you can ask to go below sticker (not a lot as has been stated) or at the very least have them put in mats for you. Good luck.
