06 Civic EX vs Fit.... what are my chances? 1/4 mile

Hey everyone.

I'm hittin up the local drag strip (1/4 mile) this Friday night with the Fit. I'm going to be racing my friend in his 2006 Civic EX Sedan.. I'm curious to know what you think the outcome will be?

Both cars have manual transmissions.. but my Fit is a little more modded than my friends Civic.. I think the engine ratings are as follows..

Civic R18 - 140HP and 128 LB FT Torque.
Fit L15 - 109HP and 105 LB FT Torque.

Now my friend has never raced his Civic or any car actually. I have been to the track but not with my Fit.

The Civic is running stock 16s with stock rubber... only modification is an Injen CAI.

My Fit is running on 15" Enkei RPF1s with V-rated summer tires, T1R Carbon Intake, Megan Racing header and Greddy Ti-C Axleback exhaust... I have the Mugen Short Shift Kit, Tein S-tech springs, and T1R V2 voltage stabilizer but those don't help that much if any... my wheels make a big difference tho as they are 12lbs lighter at each corner than the stock alloys/tires.

I think I am a big underdog to win tho.. but I was wondering what you all think!

Any ideas on what RPM I should be launching at?

Sorry, but I think the civic will win. I dont think the I/H/E will do MUCH of a difference.. could be a close one though.. good luck

I know that the numbers show that I shouldn't win.. but I know this much... When I raced my B16A 2000 Civic Si with 160 BHP I was only able to pull out a 16.1 1/4 mile here in Calgary, Alberta Canada.. and my friend with the same mods as me was able to pull a 15.9 with his 1996 Civic DX with 105 BHP.

He was a much better driver obviously... but 160 to 105 is a much bigger gap then the 140 to 109 in my race.

If your friend is able to drive decently well, then he should win easily. Looks like his Civic may be in low 16's while the Fit MT is upper 16's. So he should win by a few cars. But since it is his first time, don't expect him to "win" the race w/ the reaction time, but he'll have the better quarter mile if he doesn't misshift I'm sure. If his car was an AUTo then I think it'd be a closer race haha, just go have fun.

I couldn't find any numbers on an 06 civic, but I found a Fit post on someone I have seen on here who got a 16.2 with a not so good e.t. with i/h/e.

16.22 is pretty darn good for a Fit IMO..

This is what I found for a 2006 Civic EX Sedan 5MT by doing a google search:
8.18s 0-60mph
16.44s ¼ mile time

86.7mph ¼ mile speed

Drivers race. The Civic trapping 87mph stock is pretty good. Your friends at best should be 88mph. The Fit traps around 85mph modded.
All in the launch and the first 60 feet. If you got that down youre good.

Launching RPM all depends on you and your driving. Id say around 3000-3200rpms and ease off the clutch. Almost like when you take off a lights just add more throttle pressure. Dropping the clutch will cause wheel hop and spinning.

Hmmmm.. thanks for the advice everyone..

I'm curious to know why you wouldn't want to drop the clutch? I've been told in the past to find the right rpm.. (4300-4700rpm with the Fit) and drop it.. there will be a little bit of wheels spin, but that is almost expected in a drag race.. its usually about keeping the rpm within the vtec band correct?

If you drop the clutch it results in wheel spin, wheel spin with the Fit normally involves wheel hop.
Easing off the clutch is better IMO. Try both methods.

See if you like dropping the clutch or feathering better...kind of depends on what you feel works for you and responding to it. Hopefully you guys can race multiple times, I'm sure if it's close enough it will greatly depend on launch..
