Track tires for enkei rpf1
What are the best track/road racing tires for the enkei rpf1 15" +41 offset.
I was considering the dunlop direzze z1 star specs 195/55/15. The RPF1's are 15x7. I pretty much don't really know much about wheels and tires. What tires would fit these wheels. PS- sticky reasonably priced tires. |

There will be some contact between the tires and front fenders on bumpy curves unless you squeeze the tabs that secure the inner fenders to the fenders.. It might even happen on a bump while in a curve or corner on rough pavement after doing that.. You can cut off the tabs and trim the outer edges of the plastic liners and glue them to the undersides of the fenders... I did OK with Swift Springs and 19-55-15s by just bending the tabs.... Instead of using the plastic push rivets you can use zip ties to secure the liners to the metal fender tabs and then bend them.. That has worked for some guys that were riding pretty low... You need to get info from someone else on camber...All I can tell you from experience is that it doesn't take very much of a change to cut your tire life over 50%.

What class(es) do you plan to participate in? That may decide a spec tire for you.
The Star Specs are a solid bet, and the Hankook RS3s seem to get nothing but praise for cars in our weight range. |
I'm not class is an issue. When I went road racing at button willow raceway they did ask or cared. Sorry if my information doesn't help, just recently got into it. What tire size would be best for the hankook with my wheel specs

The Bridgestone RE-11, in my experience, is just as grippy once turned in on and wears a little better than the Star Specs. I am pretty sure they are available in 205/50R15. |
T_C, RE11s and AD08s are offered in 205/50R15 on TireRack. The AD08s weigh 20lbs/tire. The RE11s and *Specs come in at 21lbs/tire. The *Specs don't hold a candle to the AD08s (IMO), nice tire with really good wet traction and decent dry traction, but overall just not the same to me. Used them on the Snisen as the AD08 was not available and the AD07 was already an old tire and the *Specs were getting such great reviews and the price was really cheap compared to the AD07 stateside. The Kuhmos come in at 19lbs/tire, I can't say anything about them as when it comes to rubber I stick with Nippon companies with Yoks as really my sole choice. Used to be big on BS, but Yoks stole me away with the stock Yok rubber that came on the 5R.
I just wish they would carry 205/50R16 AD08s. My friend works at Tire Rack as a driver and I asked him to ask management to get with Yoko about selling the 205/50R16 stateside. I don't go cheap on tires at all, but hell if I could save about $500/4 tires even with shipping buying from Tire Rack versus buying here locally, who wouldn't do it? OP with the 15x7 I would go with the 205/50 before the 195/55, that's me though. Might go with the 195/55 or even 195/50 out back. The 55 series are not offered with the RE11 or AD08 though and the 195/50 is offered in the RE11, but not the AD08. Next though, what does your budget allow? |

The only things that bother me about Coil overs and wide sticky tires is the weight issue and that driving them in a manner that would have me taking maximum advantage of them on the street would put me in a situation where I would need racing seats and harnesses....Corbeau makes a few seat models that have some degree of comfort that would be easier than full tilt racing seats for street driving but I have problems getting into seats with tall bolsters and my screwed up back won't let me lock into one position very long... I am considering one of their suspension seats as a compromise I could live with.. Even with the tires now on the car I am sliding out of the seat on back road curves... I'll need to buy another car to drive long distances in before I go a whole further into things... I'm just getting into exploiting what I'm becoming aware of to make more power with the KWSC...

Get the NT-01! I would usually reccomend the Hankook RS3... but they only come in a 225/40/15 size and its not ideal for 15x7 wheels. |

I went on a test drive earlier today in an empty parking lot and after a few quick paces, love how much grip the dunlops provide and are very happy with the overall feel and weight savings of the RPF1's. I save approx. 8-12lbs per wheel going from the stock wheels wrapped in Primewells (how the car came when i bought it). When changing the wheels it was surprising the major weight difference between the two wheels. If you have any questions, feel free to shoot me a PM. |
Deciding to go with the nitto nt-01. These tire/wheel combo will be strictly used for road racing.
