Gd3 vs audi a6

So the topic was a who's would go round a circuit like PBIR quicker. A bone stock audi a6 with 2.4 litre c5 quatro (I think), vs gd3 with swift springs and a few go fast bits aftermarket rims and tires. He claimed my ride is a waste of time and money trying to make it what it is. I simply said he spent more than double what I spent even after the few mods!, and that I would probably smoke him in a small twisty circuit. Is this a drivers race or would I get flat out smoked:hyper::ohnoes:

This place?

A6 2.4 is slow and over 3,000 lbs. I wouldn't take anything he has to say seriously.

You should just go to the track and find out.

TPColgett 04-15-2013 03:47 PM

Racing is always going to come down to the driver.

I was once told that cars don't have limits, only the drivers do.

But lets try to use some math's and science. Since I hace no idea what year c5 it is, all I can say it is at least a 3600+ pound car with less than 250hp. If it is an all wheel drive car, with parasitic loss at a CONSERVATIVE 15%, lets say around 210whp. That's roughly 16-17 pounds per HP.

Unless you have done even MORE extensive tuning with a FlashPro than me, your Fit will be about 2500 lbs with 100whp (on a good day.) That is 25 pounds per HP.

Gearing and suspension will make up for a lot, but the Fit will most certainly be at a disadvantage on any type of full sized circuit.

At an SCCA Solo or AutoX event it becomes a whole different story :thumbups:

^On that course?!?!? IF you start rolling... MAYBE you could stay ahead till section 5... by turn 8 your toast.

STILL, the Fit is far less pretensions than any German sedan and gets double the MPG :D

dewthedew 04-15-2013 03:52 PM

im going to vote audi a6 on this one lol

shit i wouldnt mind coming out to PBIR some time

TPColgett 04-15-2013 03:57 PM

That course does look fun! LOTS of high 3rd gear likely going on at least in my Fit :thumbups:

DiamondStarMonsters 04-15-2013 04:12 PM

That front straight is over half a mile. If it is the 2.4L V6, it would be a drivers race.

If its a turbo anything (2.0/2.7) or the 4.2, its game over from the beginning, he'd have to botch it majorly for you to ever catch up/

blaaaackfit 04-15-2013 04:13 PM

That straight is not as big as it seems but the track is not that twisty either, I want to get out there too! He did just get a fresh powerplant because it was burning oil. A $17,000 dollar job btw at the audi dealer, under warranty. The audi does feel like it picks up out of the hole quick but I don't know how it will handle turns. The fit however does handle, on some drive in's the car tilts on two wheels, and does feel peppy. I do have an 86 crx with lots of suspension work and engine modifications, makes near 115whp and weighs 1900lbs!

TPColgett 04-15-2013 04:17 PM

I'd vote you take the CRX and tell the Audi that it's valued at even less than the Fit and have a much better chance of leaving him in the rear view :D

17K engine job in a German car? Sounds about right

The crx feels like a go cart, yea the audi was at the dealer for 2 weeks while the engine came from overseas. Sorry it has 3.2, that may change things up a bit......I was not 100% sure when we started this debate (had too many beers)

Wanderer. 04-15-2013 04:28 PM

Edit: Oh well, 3.2 is a different story. He will need to be a very bad driver and you an above average one. Will be a lot of catch up and late-braking lol

blaaaackfit 04-15-2013 04:32 PM

Its not a turbo model, but it is quatro and has 3.2 litre. Its still a heavy car. Its the c6 also made from 2004-2011.

TPColgett 04-15-2013 04:45 PM

What year? The "C5" A6 is '97-'04.... Cuz I still don't see a 3.2L... a 4.2 V8 though...

The 2004 4.2 V8 Quattro is 4000+pounds and rated at 300hp...

There is a 3.0 Quattro and that is rated at 3800+ pounds and 220hp...

Still, at the worst the car is around 17-19 pounds per HP and is putting it to all 4 wheels. On launch, corner exit and anything straight he will lunch you :(

STILL, if you put 1/4 of the $ into the Fit as the Audi cost, that could be a VERY different story :D

Parts + Labor = 17k? Sounds like the 4.2..

Game over if thats the case, Fit or CRX :rotfl:

TPColgett 04-15-2013 04:56 PM

:yeahthat:

But like I said... even for 1/8th of the $ in that engine job, you might be able to make the Fit FI... and If you can hit that "magic" 200whp.... :vtec: :thumbups:

Its not a v8, its 3.2 litre. I think the crx will give him a run for his money.....It handles 10 times better than the fit, and has more go. Full exhaust, cam, ported head, ported intake, ported TB, CAI, coilover suspension in rear, addco rear sway bar, spec clutch, "should be over 115whp".

The C5 A6 did not have a 3.2. C5 = 97-04

Has your CRX been on the dyno?

If not.. you don't just add the imaginary HP numbers from the parts you put together..

TPColgett 04-15-2013 05:37 PM

it would need 120+ at the wheels and 1900 or less to be in the same ball park power to weight wise... and yea... dyno sheet?

Either way, get to the track, have some fun and share video! :D

blaaaackfit 04-15-2013 09:13 PM

Posted a lengthy response and Internet was slow. The Audi is a c6 a6 3.2. I don't have dyno numbers....the car was built for auto x. I'm going off what other have made with similar platform (not much aftermarket) some are custom fab, and a healthy ew3-4....I know your mileage may vary. Bill Gude out of california can make the 1.5L sohc on 91octane put down 50hp over stock using mild cam....there are turbo'd ew making 230whp, not bad considering the engine is an eco sohc thats nearly 30 years old.

Spitfire 04-20-2013 11:11 PM

I have a Fit and an RS4, and while it's nowhere near a fair comparison, I feel I'm well qualified to say that the RS4 would smoke the Fit on a race track in absolutely all respects.

However, it's the Fit that I choose to drive on the streets 95% of the time -- it's a great little car.
