2012 Fit Sport stalling at idle

Hello folks,

2012 Fit sport with 271,000 miles and still going strong! Until this morning after my 70 mile commute (IN HEAVY RAIN), pulled into work, pushed the clutch in and engine RPM's dropped to about 1000 and then stalled. I popped the clutch and got it going again but it still stalls below 1000 RPM. I can start it but only if I step on the gas pedal about 1/4 of the way to WOT. Went back out at lunch (engine cold) same exact thing. No check engine light. I noticed the EGR is miserably corroded, like chunks of rust, so that is a suspect. I heard something about coil packs, an idle air control valve (then heard Fits don't have these).

Anyone have any ideas? I want this baby to go to 400,000.

Thanks in advance!

I solved this yesterday after work so I thought I would update for others who may have the same issue. I was able to drive home, eventually the check engine light came on so I went to a mechanic/friend who got a code for random misfires. He suspected the EGR could have some carbon stuck and it wouldn't close all the way, upsetting the fuel/air at idle. Went home, took off the EGR, pulled the plunger out and rotated it around a few times. Put it back on and good to go.

Thanks for the update! I've been going through the same thing with my '08 Fit. Tried new plugs, new battery, cleaned out the intake manifold, new gasket, coils, just about everything else... Guess I need to check the 'hot' side next!

If you have never had the valve lash inspected, you'll do yourself a huge favor by getting that done. Exhaust valve tolerances will tighten with age, eventually affecting how it runs while cold.
