Weird Rub/Grind Sound
Just last night as I was slowing for a stop, I noticed this weird grind/rubbing sound from the front, passenger side wheel area. I was nearly home, so I just pulled into my garage and did a quick look to see if anything was caught (it sounded like it might be) but didn't see anything.
This morning on the way to work, I heard it again, so I tried to eliminate possiblities on the short trip. 1) The sound seems to be independent of acceleration and braking because: 2) It continues after I stop for a few seconds and kind of sounds like something is swinging around something (if that makes sense). 3) It's annoying as hell now that I know it's there. Any thoughts? Am I providing enough info? |
odd. Did you check the belt?

So today after work, I hopped in my car and started hearing it again as I took off. I had just about relegated myself to making an appointment with the dealer when I decided to test my theory of something being "stuck" and hit the gas a bit harder than normal -- sure enough, it went away.
Probably not the smartest idea in retrospect, but it worked. If the sound comes back, I'll re-evaluate. But if not, I'll credit the fix to karma. |
i remember reading that another Fit owner had the same problem and the noise was coming from a pebble that was wedged between the brake pad and rotor
IIRC, the way he fixed it was similar to your solution except he gunned it in reverse :rotfl: |
wow...a pebble in the brakes....that sounds like it would be hard to make that happen..
gotta love the FIT |
Oh I hate pebbles in the brakes. I get about 3 a year.
Once in the old CRV I was sick and tired of it constantly screeching so I stomped on the brake pedal at 55mph and I could see that sucker fly out in front of the car. It was glowing a bright bright red. Usually I have to take the pads out to make it go away if it's not gone in 2 days or so, that sucks a lot. |
I've had "pebbles in the brakes" on several of my cars (not all of them Hondas). My 81 Civic had that several times.
