Has anyone done a DIY on a MTF change?

2008 Fit Sport

The shop manual says to change it at Maintenance Minder 3 (whatever that means in miles). There's a drain plug and filler plug. Checking the level seems easy, draining seems easy, but how do you fill? Turkey baster?

i think redline has those pumps you can use. it's similar to the shampoo pump griot's sells. :D

or try this new funnel. :p

i had to use two tranny funnels to get the fluid in but i will be useing a diffent method next time haha i jacked up the driver side remove wheel crack the bolt pan lowerd the car drain out then jack up again funnel it in slowly and rebolt think only 1.6 quarts

I used a funnel with a long flexible tube stuck on the end. It was long enough to get into the engine bay. It was a pain but it worked.

I wish there was a way to pull the VSS easily. That method was always king but on this car it's such a reach.

Will be trying soon. Hopefully I can come up with something creative. I hate side fill plugs.

you can also buy a pump with a small hose attached to it. it's very much like the pumps that are attached to ordinary hand soap containers, except larger and with a small hose from which fluid is dispensed. i forget where i got mine from, but it was probably pep boys; you could probably get it at any automotive store though. you just screw it onto the MTF container and stick the hose into the fill hole, then pump lol.

this is a question i dont have the answer for, nor have i seen it....how many quarts should I buy for a manual transmission fluid change?

polaski 08-20-2009 04:04 PM

Book says 1.6 qt for a change or 1.7 if you take the case apart. Round up

I had trouble with my last on-the-bottle pump. The straw going into the quart was about 2" off the bottom so I always had to keep extra fluid handy to take up that space. Good idea though, I forgot about this little contraption.

Thanks Polaski, I appreciate it :)
