1 Year, 17,400 Mile Oil Change Lab Results

1 Attachment(s)
*****UPDATE 11-27-15: Latest and final results posted a few replies down. *****

My results finally came back so I thought I would post them up.

To recap, this oil change consisted of 5w-30 AMSOIL w/ the AMSOIL Ea oil filter. A half of a quart was added at 13,000 miles.

The test came out good, but my silicon (dirt) level was high. I'm not sure what to do since the airbox is 100% stock. I'm not overly concerned about the aluminum at this point since the PPM/Mile ratio dropped from the last sample.

My TBN checked out OK as well, but it's about as low as I'd want to get it. 2.0 is my absolute limit.

The car now has 0w-30 AMSOIL w/ the AMSOIL Ea oil filter. I'll probably send in a sample when it's time to change the oil, but I won't do any in-between.

Enjoy!

That's crazy you went a whole year without changing your oil, cool stuff.

Sweet - all looks good to me. I wouldn't worry about the silicon if I were you, I'm not exactly sure what they're talking about in the comments section. Do they know you didn't change the oil from the last sample? I mean, 18ppm vs. 16ppm 5k miles ago is hardly anything. My oil report showed 6ppm, but that was for a paltry 3,700 mile interval. Extrapolate that out to the mileage you've put in on your interval, and it's quite a bit more than 18ppm.

Thanks for sharing!

Wow.. Mine's an 07' and only has 12,000 miles on it >>;

Interesting, this is the first time I've seen oil analyzed like this. :D

Mind if you can share your driving conditions for the 17,400-mi interval?

Sure,

28 mile drive to work, one way. Mostly highway. I drive through a couple of small towns with stoplights.

I had 2 auto crosses on this oil change as well.

Weekend driving consists of city driving with moderate stop and go.

Yeah I guess you're right, the dirt/mile ratio is pretty low. I'm not going to lose any sleep over it, that's for sure.

curious what the 0w-30 oil would look like.

After I took a sample at 13,000 miles I pulled the dipstick and saw it was a little low. The sample is only 2 or 3 fluid ounces so I had to have burned a little. I pulled the dipstick again before I changed the oil and it was still full.

It was the first time I had to add oil. but the car only has 23,xxxx miles. I didn't add any during the break in period. We'll see what happens during this new run.

It should be very similar, though you'll have to wait a whole year though! :)

:)

It was that low after changing it at 12,790, maybe when it was changed the engine wasn't turned over and the oil filter was empty. Then after you ran it the engine was low because now the oil filter was full.

After a 6500 mile oil change my silicone was at 14. They didn't seem alarmed about it but suggested I check my intake system. I then switched back to the factory Honda filters because they come pre oiled. Not sure if that's going to make a difference but I figured it was worth a shot.

Well, this will be the last entry for oil samples on the Fit. I sold the car this spring with 117,000 miles on it.

This last oil sample I took in October of 2014. The car had 109K miles on it. This oil change had almost 16K miles on it and went for a full year just like the others. The results were just fine like all the others as well.

I also changed the sparkplugs that summer and took some pics of the valvetrain. I had to make adjustments on TWO valves. All other valves were within spec.

I was very happy that everything looked very clean and didn't have any cooked on oil like you might expect from oil staying in that long.

I hope this thread was interesting and beneficial to those thinking about extended drain.

question (haha never thought I see another cleanmpg member here) what was your OIL LIFE indicator when you did the oil change? Did you think Honda's algorithm was on point in predicting oil life?

My oil life monitor came on every 6,800 miles or so. I would just reset it when it got to 15% and continued on. Not sure if that answered your question or not.
