Rear Bumper Protector/Applique
I like the idea of the clear film. This stuff can be purchased by the foot and installed at home; cheaper than the Honda applique and allows the color to show through. Not that I would be unhappy with the Honda part, either; it's not too shabby.

We've done a few of the honda covers and they have all turned out well.
for $65 I don't think thats too bad
I installed the applique myself within 10-15 minutes
I brought all the online prices to my local Honda dealer for price comparison. Thereby, avoiding shipping charges and having to wait.
I got it for $45. 3 dollars more than CollegeHillsHonda.com.
Number one reason is my kids book bags, scooters, and baseball stuff.
Used my kids dry erase markers and centered it according to instructions.
Looks good. Need piccs I'll provide. Watch the collegehillshonda vid too.

I bought and install per instructions. My kids pull their rolling book bags out over the top of the rear bumper every morning when I drop them off at school. Plus I dropped a ratchet on the rear too. Thanks for the applique.
Plus if that gets all screwed up I can replace that and not have to repaint the rear.

I want to be true to my Honda friends but I just don't have $50 to throw away on some grey tread tape even if it said "Fit" or "Mugen"
It is against mr religion to just buy what I am told to because....
In saying that , while I was getting stuff out of the back of my Fit a wind kicked up and pulled the two peices of wood like someone knocked them out of my hand right onto the soft bumper cutting about 1/4 in knicks into it.
I almost had a conniption right there but there was no one to blame, the wind, God, fate, myself?
Anyway I am going to try to find this stuff called Pac-grip mentioned earlier here is a linkhttp://www.pistoleer.com/pachmayr/pacskin/
Much cheaper but it is neoprene so Idont know if it'll be weather resistant.
If anyone has any other Ideas feel free to let us know..

That's an idea, neoprene is gasoline resistant so that's a plus and neoprene rubber usually last for several years before it starts cracking. But it will tend to rub off a little so don't wear white pants and rub against it after the first year or so. Also it may tend to get a little dull looking.
I also bought the applique aftermarket and installed it myself. The Honda material is just a thick black tape, and I would be happier if it were made of a thicker, rubber-like material that would stand up to some wear.
There is another unversal-fit product on the market called the "Bumper Bib". This is a thick, wide pad that attaches inside the hatch floor area with Velcro. It stays on your cargo floor until you fold it out over the bumper when you are loading stuff in the back, or you want to protect your pants from collected rain and mud during a storm while leaning inside the hatch..

I think I saw one of those "Bumper Bib's" the other day at Unclaimed Baggage and it was a bulky thing (about the size of a queen sized pillow in the bag). It also looked like it would be pretty abrasive but then I didn't take it out of the package to see if it had a soft side that would keep it from scratching the paint.
I didn't care for it so I didn't bother checking the price. It may have been an older version since I see the new ones look like synthetic leather, it looked more like canvas.

Why dont you just get a piece of clear protectant. You can get it in 2,3, or 4" wide sections. 12 mils thick! I had it on my Eclipse GSX door sills and it worked beautifully. Just replaced after every car show, the paint faded equally with the rest of the car so it did not bother me.

As far as using it on the bumper for a protectant the site has this in bold typeface "Not for use on plastic bumpers and repainted vehicles. " It probably doesn't have the flex properties of the other clear bras and protective clear plastics.

The repainted vehicle statement is to prevent dopes who repaint their vehicles with Krylon from becoming upset when it lifts.
