Another GD water thread
 

Hi guys;

I've got an 07 Fit Sport, and I've got the "classic" water in the rear, driver side footwell.

Last year, when I first noticed this, I took apart my door panels and used some aluminum tape to seal the plastic barrier, which I hoped would solve the problem.

No bueno. More water in the footwell. Furthermore, this time around, I've noticed water pooled in the spare-tire well -- Water seems to shift between the two depending on how I'm parked.

I'm at wits end. Local quotes are around $200 to even start doing a drip test, let alone any fix, and I'd rather not just trade the car in to be rid of it because I otherwise adore it.

Can anyone else give me a direction (explained like I'm 5, if you would) to look? I've gone over the car with a hose and I'm not seeing anything obvious.

its a real problem. most GD3's leak into the rear footwell.

I hadn't heard of it. My guess would be that it's leaking between the two doors and seeping down inside the rear door. Just a guess...

actually the only GD3's that are affected are early model 07's. there was a thread on it from some guy in europe back in the day and i believe that he found the water was coming in from the sheet metal seam under the rear, left hand side seat.

i had the same problem but ever since ive been parking my car on level ground, it hasnt been leaking.

I think I managed to actually narrow down where it is. As I said, I'd patched the doors already. I popped off the plastic covers over the shock strut mounts and found that on the drivers side, I had water spraying in whenever the shock compressed. I'm not sure at the moment if it's coming in around the rubber gasket, or if it's the weld on the cup. I figure I can JB-weld around the cup seams, and clean up that area. I'll get some pictures as well, just so I'm not called out as being a troll.

had the same issue with my 05 dc5 and same with my 07 gd3-___-,the water makes its way to where the spare is and chills

Man, I feel your pain!!! I got water leaking on the driver side floor, the rear passenger door behind the driver seat, the trunk spare tire well, and the back right taillight cover!!!! Shit!!!! Fuck it!! After reading everyone's water woes...I'm just gonna buy that spray on rubber seal stuff from home depot on my 2007 Honda Fit.

Wow, I had no idea what this was talking about until I saw the pictures with the strut mount cover.

I was wondering what my wife had spilled in the back area so quickly... :o

Any consensus on how to take care of this? Mine seems to be a small amount, so maybe damming the water by the strut top mount so it can just drain back out?

Virdog, I actually took the entire day to figure it out. On the right front door and the left front door right under the speaker, the seal is not big enough...therefore water leaks in. So those are automatically two spots already. The other one is the seal in the antenna. It leaks a little bit of water.

Never had any issues with my GD3 having this problem. Glad you found out what was going on.

look for cracks in the top corners of the rear hatch its leaking from there down between the panels

I had this problem with my 08 base fit. To solve the problem but it won't be the prettiest fix. Use duck tape, whatever color you choose. Open the rear door, duck tape above the weather strip covering the whole top across and that's it. I don't have my 08 base anymore but I did the same to my 07 sport Fit, still haven't had anymore water problems :)

Got this problem happen to me Sunday when we had a crazy rain storm and water is behind the frt passenger seat under the rear seat. My car stunk like dirty feet Monday morning.:puke:

For those affected with water getting into the vehicle, there is a TSB that addresses one of the issues.

The other more common issues tends to be the seal around the antenna, or the hatch seal.

However, the most common issue that allows a lot of water into the spare tire well, which I too was affected with, tends to be small cracks between the roof line and the quarter panel line. You'll need to remove the two long black roof rail seals.
