07 Help with first DIY front break job
 

My front break rotors have gone all rusty and need to be replaced. I've done front breaks and rotors on many other cars but not Honda's. Anything I should be worried about or know? Also what is the best online source for these parts?

Any video's or tutorials online?

Dear tgr23. Try to clean and recover before replacing with a new one. Are they worn and/or damaged? It would be too expensive to take on a lathing workshop and perform a clean hit to the surface ?

Honda secures their rotors to the hub with small Phillips (actually JIS) screws. You may need an impact driver to remove them. If you are in a salty climate, you may need to drill them out.


You should clean and repack the slider pins on the calipers with synthetic brake grease. Don't mix up the top & bottom pins, they are different.

Your new pads should 'fall out' of the top & bottom holders. If they are tight, they could bind and wear rapidly. Un-clip the stainless guides, file or sand the rusty bits underneath until the pads are loose, then coat with brake grease to prevent future corrosion.

PS Don't forget to de-rust, lubricate, and adjust the rear drum brakes, too. SEARCH for instructions on that. The shoes are probably still in good shape.

I don't think new rotors are that expensive. And yes, an impact driver is necessary. Good luck!

Rock auto sells name brand rotors and pre powder coated calipers for the GD... Cheap.
