JDM All Wheel Transplant to USDM Fit?

I was looking up some stuff online and saw that the fit is offered overseas as an all wheel drive option. I know that it said the 7 speed auto offered this but I was wondering if the manuel 5 speed was also offered, if the differential, shaft, and rear transaxle would fit plug and play in the USDM version? Also if the 5 spd isnt available in all wheel can the parts around the front differential be swapped from a 7 spd cvt to make it work. I know this may not be a very reasonable project as far as budget goes, but with all wheel drive the fit should stick even better, or so my dream was. Does any one have any thoughts? this is my first thread post so please be patient with me.

thanks

Thumbs up

haHA, i have wondered the same thing as well. I did not know, however, that the AWD was only available for the 7spd CVT... and i really don't have any info to help your cause. Sorry. But, you are not alone! Maybe JDMchris has some answers?

Also, i wonder how much all that extra stuff weighs? That was my only concern with swapping the AWD setup

Awd!!!

OK AWD is a cool addition. I hope you people have viewed the threads where people discussed converting an AT fit into an MT fit. There are also threads discussing putting an NSX powertrain into an S2000. Fantasyland is indeed a cool place but at some point you'll be driving what I'm guessing will be a 40K fit. This'll make the AT to MT conversion look lika an oil change. By the way if you were working for "Road and Track" and your editor were flipping the bill it would be great but if you have pay for it it would be insane and that's not insane in a good way. By the way I've lusted after the japanese AWDs since day one. They get a lot of goodies they don't let us have. A porsche 959 would be nice as well but I regress. COST/BENEFIT COST/BENEFIT Is it worth it? I know you guys are just bouncing ideas around and it IS a cool idea.

What about the new 09' Fit isn't there a track control on the sport model? Is it electronically controlled?

Yeah the whole financial side may kill the idea but I cant help but dream. still looking, maybe a JDM front clip could source the trans and ECU, I would still have to get the prop shaft, rear differential, and rear suspension parts. The 09 traction controll may be a better option, I get a decent amount of tourque steer on lauches and it understeers a lot in any low traction event. maybe that would help. still can't shake the idea though.

I'm truly sorry for raining on your parade. I'm 47 and every dream has been smashed to bits. I'd like AWD but it's not a US thing. I'd like for the CVT to be available as well but honda thinks we're too primitive as a market segment. We have to play with the cards we're dealt.

im sure the swap is very doable, on a local forum there is a guy that's converting a 95 mirage in to a Evo III. He has sources two front clips for a Evo III transplanted the engine and has done a RHD swap. He has basicle built a Evo III from the ground up, the only real diffrence, I think, is that the Fit is a new car. That will probable make it alot harder to source parts for the swap and probable fairly exspencive.

hmm...

i thought about doing what renault and pugeot (MS?) has done with there subcompacts. adding a V6. in a subcompact there is no WAY you could cram a v6 in the engine bay, BUT the french have started putting them behind the driver! this would make a midengine rear drive FIT! (of course you would have to use the C32 from a NSX-gotta keep it honda right?) again this is fantasyland. however it is totally do-able. ive seen many, many, many civics and integras with a mid engine conversion. it takes engineering. but its not out of the realm of mortal men. go ahead, skeptics, research it online. the internet never lies...

The Chassis code for the Vtec AWD is the GD5. looked around some, for more info. recently seen two article where a yaris got the MR2 turbo transplant in the back. would be killer to drop the NSX or 2nd Gen Legend V6 in the back of the Fit. I met a guy who is fitting a R32 Skyline GTR engine into an Accord. Hey with enough time and a little out of the box thinking anythings got to be possible.

you also have to consider that the jdm gd5 awd is not a full time awd such as in the evo and sti. i think it would add too much weight for little gain.

i think in 20 years, when the fit is a shitbox, like a crx or ef hatch or wagovan, this swap will be feasible. but now, with the fit being a relatively new car, i dont see the benefit.

I didn't realize the fit's AWD wasn't full time, that would defineitely be way better, what about a LSD for the fit. I am just tired of the tourque steer on acceleration and breaking and the poor traction when starting and turnung at the same time.

spoon, j's racing, cusco, and obx all have an lsd out for the fit, but it will cost you.
