Axleback ECU Reset and volume questions
I am in the middle of planning my exhaust setup and am currently deciding between going just axleback for a little more performancy sound or going full bore and changing everything out. That being said I want to get the T1R VIP axleback kit and was wondering if I need to do an ECU reset after it is installed?
Anyone who is running a full exhaust swap from header to axleback, can you tell me if you think its too loud at highway speeds? I do not want to piss my wife off while she is in the car, or give her a headache. I am almost 30 and loud brash car notes don't bother me, but they do her to an extent (needlessly loud bothers her). So any input on a comparable volume level would be great. To give an example, I used to drive a turbo B18 with 3" custom piped exhaust to a generic can on a GSR and at highway speeds that car had a rather intrusive drone (did not have the wife for this car so no baseline). Is it the same on the fit with the full kit? Would an axleback and just a mid pipe or just a test pipe switch give me more volume that is not unbearable? Thanks for your time guys. P.S. I have checked Youtube videos and spent countless hours listening to them but I have no point of reference for overall volume. I love the way the Red Fit with the RS*R and full setup sounds, but not sure if that will be super loud in the cabin. The rest I cannot get a read for total volume...so any ideas would be great. |
I can add some light for you. I had SSR Short Ram Intake, Aspec test pipe, and Tsudo 60mm Cat back. It Was LOUD. So loud it was unbearable to me. I have since took the test pipe out, and put stock cat back on. Much better. Now it is drivable, and before I was always looking for the cop to get me. So bad I would not redline her, and that is not normal for me. I now have stock cat with the above mentioned cat back. I love it now. Deep gorgeous sound. Adds a little uumph as well.
Now for the ECU reset. Some say to reset it after every mod you do. Some people say dont. Our ECU adapts itself. I may reset it just to see for myself if anything changes? SSR intake, test pipe and 60mm cat back. Excuse camera mic rattle was close to it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQ1o6LuHvu0 SSR intake, stock cat and 60mm cat back http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zJrMbOmRl8 Test pipe pics can be found in my sig. Cat back pics on page two here: https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/fit-...hts-trail.html . |
I have a megan axle back, it's very tolerable. Adds enough sound so you can tell where the engine is, in it's rpm's.

I thought about going with the Megan, but those tips are kinda ugly in my opinion. I am more than willing to pay more moolah for an aesthetic that pleases me. |

You and I have the same exact Intake/Exhaust setup. Only difference is that I had T1R test pipe. but have also taken it off. I agree that it was WAAAAYYY too loud. Stock cat is back on and I'm back to the deep delicious sound that my car used to have. Very pleased. To OP, I recommend getting a cat-back if you want noticeable sound difference but not ear-pounding loud-ness. Tsudo Cat-back is a good choice for $199 IMO an axle-back isn't enough for me to make a big difference in how the car sounds... Sounds a little weak to my ears |
Here is a sound-clip of my car with the Tsudo Cat-back and stock cat :)
