Anyone heard of zage turbo kits?
They are from Taiwan seen a video of a yaris with the kit making 150whp. So I looked them up and they make a kit for the jazz/fit. I dont want to be the guenie pig

well, i've seen the kit once. when it was being installed to some guy's car. looks preety decent. and the shop owner says that it is not that bad as far as power goes. Doesn't really that much difference with HKS kit. But I don't know about the reliability though...

I sent zage an email....about 2 days ago, no response yet. I was hoping to get a price estimate. The kit on the yaris made good power, but like someone said reliability is questionable.

i could see if we were dealing with 15 year old $500 Honda/Acura motors that we could replace when a turbo hand grenades, but i don't wanna be coming outta pocket $1500+ for another L15 because i wanted to cut corners and get a cheap turbo. You can go cheap on stuff when buying a turbo kit, you just can't go cheap on a turbo. I'm speaking from personal experience with this one, don't get a cheap turbo, it's not worth it in the end.

How much experience?
You should amend that to "Don't buy a knock off turbo" Nothing wrong with a cheap turbo. Quality components are what you should be worried about, and in many cases with experience you'll find that price =/= quality. But you enjoy taking out a second mortgage for your non-rebuildable Garrett/PTE/Turbonetics BB CHRAs. I'll out-spool and out-last you with a comparable JB centersection BW/Holset, that may need a thrust bearing replaced for $150 every 100k miles boosting 40psi with EGTs through the roof the whole way. Ask all the pro-mod guys who've been blowing up PTE's garbage hot side housings, and those are not cheap by any means. The sheisters at PTE tried blaming the GT55 turbine wheel for it too! Whether or not the wheel failed, your undercut housing is still supposed to contain the f*cker. |
i totally agree, don't buy a "knock off turbo" or one from Taiwan made with shitty parts that won't let you push 6psi before it grenades.
as for experience....only 10 years of owning turbo cars which isn't much, but i've owned quite a few and built them. I've boosted everything from my 325ci, SRT4, a few Civics, my FC, SVT focus and even a ZX6r. |
a word of question: i don't think the zage kit or HKS blot-on kit for that matter is designed to push high pressure? definitely not higher then our puny L15 internals can handle, which i reckon is not much? blame it on the smallish intake valve i guess... and our weak-ass block... which i've somehow managed to chip the bastard...

Well it is an economy based engine....not a performance one. One way to look at it is back in the eighties 5 liter mustangs made around 120-140 hp, and they handled like farm tractors. I think the L15 just in software (tuning) there's at least 15-20 hp to be made.

Not in the early eighties first set of third gen mustangs made 120hp both the 4 cylinder turbo and the v8.....the later 93 heads where a far cry compared to the ones that where on previous models.

E85, 16:1CR slugs, a big cam, sheet metal intake manifold and a ton of timing = >100whp/liter NA Fit
Oh wait.. GD only, sorry guys. Bwahaha If the exhaust manifold wasnt integrated into the GE cylinder head, there would be significantly more you could do to squeeze out some power or shift the power band. |

When it comes to car parts you will get what you pay for... seriously though you bought a honda and you are potentially going to put crappy parts in it???
