TB boring... anyone do it?
 

I know this has come up in conversation before on FF but has any pulled the plug and tried boring their TB? Some mentioned Maxbore.com throttle body boring service and repair but I haven't heard feedback from anyone on FF. Curious to hear the results.

There are a few people on here that have it done. JL is one guy I believe had it done.

I see this about as useful as getting an electronic throttle controller since the engine cant use more air unless you are running decent boost numbers.

The electronic throttle controller is fun and useful that I have noticed. The downfall is when you get mods and AutoX with it. At max Performance on the ETC it can be to much in the turns.

I'm sure it with some manifold porting it would help.

It's also been said that a R18 TB will bolt on and is supposed to be plug and play. That's a 55mm vs our 50mm. Again though, unlesd pushing enough air for 200+whp or so on boost, it's not a necessity lol

As far as I have read on basic TB theory, you want the SMALLEST possible sized hole that still flows enough/as much air as your head/cam package can pump.

I'm actually second guessing myself because isn't our manifold a dual plenum design? Which if that is the case then air inlet sizing won't matter at all.

No not really. I was looking at my spare oem manifold and there is a plastic divider inside making me think it is a dual plenum designed for second harmonics.

If someone has more knowledge on this it would be great.
