Barometric Pressure vs Intake Air Pressure
 

I've been looking at these on my Torque software during my runs and do not know what to make of them. One is a barometric pressure reading and one is an intake air pressure reading.

Barometric pressure is always 14.6psi during full throttle (WOT)

1) With stock intake and HKS panel air filter, the intake air pressure at WOT is between 13.9 and 14.2.
2) Change to a SRI (Short Ram Intake that is also a CAI) and the intake air pressure is between 14.2-14.4psi.

What can I make of this info? How can I use it to decipher what is working and what isn't? Does this mean when doing intake modifications that you your intake air pressure to be as close to barometric pressure as possible (while N/A of course)? Googling ain't helping here.... Thanks!

BTW: I am just trying to utilize other things to look at besides my standard 1/4 mile runs, ignition timing, maf g/s, intake air temp, etc.

The idea is to have the highest pressure rating you can. If you look up pulse tuning in d-series.org you should find a thread where rushi built a calculated intake and intake manifold and was able to tune it harmonically and saw 1.2-1.4psi above barometric pressure.

It meant the tuning of the 3rd wave harmonic was almost perfectly timed so that after each valve closed it built enough vacuum to create a positive pressure right before the intake valves opened again.

A physical idea to the timing is dropping rocks in a pond in perfect timing so that each new rock that is dropped in creates faster ripples that overlap the previous rock's ripples thus making a larger ripple as it expands.

So on your car you know you are moving in the right direction every time the number grows.
