Vented Hoods

I was just woundering, if I or somebody were to buy a new hood that had vents on it, would I have to also buy a rain guard? What would happen if I didn't buy a rain guard?

I never heard of rain guards, but then again I never owned a vented hood. And if water got into the engine bay via the vent and the engine was hot it would create steam.

rain gaurds stop water from getting into your shit, but then again if you look at where the vents are theres really nothing thats going to happen

Well, cold water + hot engine doesn't sound like a good idea.. I would also suspect it to cause bigger problems when driving in the rain and you get splashed by water from a nearby car..

Wow, that's quite....expensive for a rain catch.

You could probably make yourself one. Could even have it bypass your engine and have it cool something.

wouldnt this rain guard defeat the entire purpose of the vents?

Well I would assume it wouldn't totally cover it up, but instead probably redirects the water else where as well as giving the purpose of being a vent.

Or that, you could just put some washers on the hood.

I could be wrong but I think the rain guard is supposed to be used while parked. When you are driving down the road the rain is moving against the front of your car (depending on speed) so I doubt it would be a problem. If you have no garage and live in a rainy area I can see the point.

I had mine off of the Evo. I am not sure what it was for, just some vents, but when I went with a CF hood, I left the guard/vent out and just left the mesh there in the opening. I wouldn't thing too much would happen if you didn't have one. Especially with the vented hoods on the market now for the Fit. And the steam thing, you won't notice the steam too much if you are driving.
