Thule T2 Hitch Rack
Anyone using a Thule T2 Hitch Rack on their fit? I want to know if the tilt down option is enough to clear for the rear hatch to open with bikes loaded.

I had no issues with mine om my 08. I haven't bought the hitch for the 09 yet though.
|
You guys upgrade your suspension in the rear? Also anyone know when 2009 versions of Thule gear come out?
|
I had Tein S-Tech lowering springs, they are quite stiff in the back which probably helped with the added weight.
09 Thule stuff should be out now, Interbike was back in November last year and the bike shops have been recieving 09 stuff for the past couple months. |
I really don't want to change my springs if it's not needed. I think the rear springs are stiff enough as it is when ever I hit a speed bump.
Looks like there are 3 trailer hitches on etailer now. The hidden hitch and drawtie hitch look identical. Then there's the Curt one which has a different picture. Which model did you guys get? |
I would just go with the cheaper hitch. The Hidden hitch includes drawbar, pin and clip. You won't need these for a bike rack. I used the T2 all last year on my 08 and yes you knew you had a rack back there but I never felt like I needed to further modifiy the car to use the rack. If you are carrying a couple 45 pound downhill mountain bikes it might be a different story. I only had bikes in the sub 20lb range.

I have the Hidden Hitch. Here's a pic of my car with a borrowed rack from my local bike shop, my Thule T2 917 wasn't delivered on time so they lent me a Sport Rack 2-bike carrier. It held up fine, it was a cheap rack too, I think around 120US. The second pic is one with my Thule rack in stow away configuration.
I was lowered on Tein S-tech springs in that photo, I am now on J's Racing/Showa suspension. Both bikes weighed about 70lbs combined. Pics always help :) http://photoshare.shaw.ca/image/a/0/...06-0.jpg?rev=0 http://photoshare.shaw.ca/image/a/0/...38-0.jpg?rev=0 |
Thanks for the pics. Are you able to open the hatch with 2 bikes loaded on the T2?
|
No, you can't open the hatch with 2 bikes loaded. You have to take them off to open the hatch

No I don't believe so, my bike sits at about the same height as the top of my car while loaded.. the tilt function only drops the bikes down a little and there just isn't enough space to clear
|
On my 07, the tilt back was more than enough to open the hatch. I don't think you'll have any problems.
|
i dont have THAT rack, but mine definitely has enough room to tilt and open the hatch
|
mine tilts, but with 2 bikes loaded up I'm pretty sure you can't open the hatch...

Yee,
Not sure what would be different on your setup, the rack or the bikes, but here's mine. Hatch opens no problems with bike on mount closest to car. I've had two on before also with no issues. Attachment 65164 Attachment 65165 Attachment 65166 Ken |
I have my hitch installed and the T2 is sitting in the garage. Going to try to put it together this weekend, but I hear were getting 60 mph winds this weekend. Well see.
|
wind doesnt really affect my hitch and rack..

I just installed the T2 on 2009 Fit. Wanted to confirm for those that wanted to know that it fits perfectly. You can fold it up and there was also enough clearance to open the hatch with a 26" wheel bike on it when tilted down.
