Japanese Honda Fit RS 2009 vs Japanese Swift 2011
Japanese Honda Fit RS 2009 vs Japanese Swift 2011
Hi guys, I'm from the Caribbean and we normally get all our used cars imported from Japan (not sure how much that will help in what im about to say).
In a few months(at most 2), I will BUY and OWN my VERY FIRST car.
Please keep in mind that I know very, very little about vehicles and how they fully work internally, my passion and expertise is elsewhere, and just like with my iPhone I want something that "Just works" with very little need for going to the mechanic every 2 months
but easy enough to maintain that I can just set a reminder to get it serviced every few months/X miles.
I'm currently deciding between a 2009 75,000KM Honda Fit RS and a 2011 74,000KM Suzuki Swift, they "fit" in my price range and I think both would be good first cars for me.
The price difference between the two is small, the Swift is $550 USD more than the 2009 Honda Fit RS, what this tells me is that maybe the fit is just so well at holding value... but here are more car specs for the two:
Honda Fit RS:
- Model: DBA-GE8
- Engine: 1.5L L15A
Suzuki Swift:
- Model: DBA-ZC72S
- Engine: 1.2L K12B
I'm torn between the two...I can tell that the Fit RS will be quicker, yes I do like having the option to be able to use paddle shifters every now and then (I assume all Fit RS comes with them) and maybe occasionally speeding off to somewhere, but reliability is very important to me, so if the swift is more reliable then I would be willing to sacrifice the sportiness of the Fit RS for the Swift.
What's important to me:
- Reliability
- Great fuel economy
- Low maintenance cost
- Availability of parts if something needs to be replaced, whether it's getting the part from a "like" vehicle or ordering it new
My driving conditions:
- I go between the north and south of my island every 2-3 weeks, that's a 1-hour drive and about 41KM for that drive. In between that time I would be driving within the part of the island I am at, whether it's the north or the south, so you can say maybe I will get around 102KM a month, sometimes more and sometimes less of course.
- Our roads in the south are not the best, but I have no problem slowing down to go around a pot-hole.
- Not all our roads are smooth like in the north (the city), I have seen around a few places that the Fit is not that great on damping road noise...I'm not sure how the swift does in that area, but I love music and would most likely always have my music to the point that I wouldn't notice.
What drove me to create this topic was basically seeing that the swift is a 2011 year model vs a 2009 year model Fit RS
The Swift is not that much more expensive and it even has a smaller engine so I'm wondering why the older 2009 Fit RS is still so close in price even though the swift is a younger year model, is it the size of the engine or something?
