Just bought my first Fit a few days ago
Hello everyone,
Ive been an ASE Certified Master Automotive Technician for over 25 years and have always been a huge fan of Hondas. They are very well made vehicles and very long lasting with some basic maintenance. While I'm new to owning a Fit, I am well versed in automotive repairs and would be glad to help anybody who ever has a question. Just ask!
I just got my first Fit a few days ago and I am really impressed with how it drives. Its a Black 2010 Sport automatic with Navigation and just over 32k miles. I remember reading an article a long time ago about these before they came out and never thought I would ever own one.
I bought it for fuel savings since Ive modded my 2005 Unlimited Jeep Wrangler Rubicon so heavily since I bought it new back in 2005 that it now gets about 12 MPG on the highway. I've been spending $140 a week on gas commuting to my new job in my Wrangler. Ill actually save money after the Fit's car payment, fuel cost and insurance. The Wrangler will be weekends only and I can now spend time fully modding it! I also have a 2012 Range Rover Evoque which is loaded with features and luxury and is loads of fun to drive.
The only thing the Fit may need is a battery since it cranked a little slow when I test drove it and for a day after I took it home. The tiny battery looks like it belongs in a motorcycle! I will probably squeeze a 51R battery in place before it gets cold and will then have plenty of amps to spin over the little motor.
The brakes also feel a little under engineered and I will most likely upgrade those in time. I know the used car lot slapped pads and rotors on it before they put it up for sale so it could be junk parts. They make a slight groaning noise after hard braking. Ill most likely get OEM pads and see if it stops better. I also want to check the rear brake adjustment since it does a slight nose dive under braking.
It drives pretty well and gets better fuel economy than its rated for if driven carefully. I just drove 22 miles of mostly highway and ended up with an average of 41.6 MPG. I feel like it would handle a little better with a little bit of a wider tire but think it would also drop the fuel economy. Anybody know how much MPG drops with wider tires?
Ive also thought about changing the ATF as preventative maintenance. Hondas have been known to cook trannies without maintenance on some models so I don't mind being proactive and changing the old stuff.
Well, that's enough for now.
Glad to be a member!

Hi Nick, welcome to the fitfreak family. I also have the same year and model. Ï got it 2 years ago as a "basic" commuter car. I was driving 60+ miles/day commute and had a Ford Explorer Sport Track that was really killing me with gas. I miss my truck, but have really grown to love the Fit. The Fit has been the most reliable car I have ever owned in my almost 50 years of driving. My daughter also has a Fit which has withstood two years of teenage driving. She drives the hell out of it, and with basic maintenance it just keeps going!
Welcome to the forum, I just put 205/50/16 on my 12 Fit really have not notice any decrease in MPG actually it recently has been improving average city and highway 32.8mpg. Brought my Fit because of its reliability, utility and every review I have read used the word "fun" when describing driving the Fit which is not common. I usually buy Toyota but they have nothing like the Fit to offer.
Post some pictures when you get a chance. Again welcome to the forum.

nice!
congrats.
i too run 205/50/16's on my winter set.
i can't tell if it's the tires or if just the use of winterized gas that is affecting mpg. we get oxygenated gas from oct to april.
