GE8 HID Installation

I recently received my H4 4300k Xenith Xenon HID headlight kit and would like recommendations on the best location for mounting the ballasts. I was under the impression that most HID kits can be installed without removing the front bumper for the GE's, and figured it would be a fairly straightforward DIY (which it probably is) but I would feel more confident knowing I have them mounted in a place which is known to work best.

The kit does come with some mounting gear for the ballasts, and a a few wire ties, but before I start bending and re-shaping everything I thought I would ask.... The drives side headlight has a great spot to mount it, but again I would have to bend the mounting gear and the ballast would just kind of hang down. Of course the same spot on the passenger side has the windshield washer fluid reservoir in this area so it's a bit more of a challenge.

I have a few quick shots of these areas attached. I haven't contacted the vendor directly about installation, but in stead hope to start some ideas here to share with the group. What may help best is a shot or two of someone's own GE HID kit install, if available....Thanks!

Don't sweat over the best place to put the ballast.

Trust me I've installed HID kits on close to 100 vehicles including GE8. The best location for ballast is any place where there is not excessive heat, not close to timing belts or other wierd things and securely fastened or tightened, either with zip-tie or existing bolt. All aftermarket ballasts are made to be waterproof, impact resistant.

NEVER drill your car chassis or put it in a place that takes you 5 hours to remove.

That said, I think I finished installing a bi-xenon HID kit on a customer's car within 20mins. If it's taking you more than an hour, you are doing something wrong =P

yeah...ge8 has plenty of room....if anything
double side tape it to the fender wall
make sure u get the automotive double sided tape..those will hold good..even if water get onto it
body side molding and door visor use the same double sided tape..so it wil stick =)
just clean both surface well before applying tape

Thanks guys for your input!! I will swing by auto zone tomorrow and find some automotive double sided tape, and will begin installing tomorrow morning.

Thanks! Yep, that seems to be the perfect spot.

fog lights flickers or head lights or doesn't work ground the black wire off the ballast to the chassis the red wire to fog light stock wire. Did it to my fit the morning and test drive the fit in wet conditions and it works no problems with my hid fogs or head light hids

It's hard for me to understand that first sentence, but it sounds like you had a grounding issue which you have resolved. Congrats!

Uh, if you think it's faster to get a response online from other people, ESPECIALLY asking them to put a picture up... than to just go outside and pull the plug yourself...

maybe you shouldn't be doing this.

deluxrockz 07-21-2010 09:36 PM

some always with their stupid answers like GOOBERS, i wasnt even asking you for the info. so why ur replying like if my question bother you. [thanks for your help reako]

You may think it's stupid, and that's fine. But if you are unwilling to spend five minutes (or less) opening the hood and unplugging the bulb, but yet willing to wait potentially much longer sitting at your computer, what does that imply?

Why not unplug it now, get used to it, get a feel for your car that you are attempting to modify.

But, hey, whatever floats your boat.

Edit: here's somethingto chew on... You dug up a 17 month old thread, didn't get a response for 4 hours. And unfortunately, the OP no longer even has the setup in which to get the picture. When you could've spent the 5 minutes to open the hood, unplug the headlight bulb, pull it out, look at it and then put everything back together.
