install 60w H4 bulb over factory 55w H4 bulb? bad ?

I ordered
Philips Crystal Vision Ultra bulbs

Then I realize they are 67Watt (high beam) / 60Watt (low beam).

Since factory wires can take 65Watt high beam, if I just use low beam (60Watt) I should be fine?

^^Not quite!

These tend to run at a hotter temperature which can cause the harness to melt.

+1

Over here, the usual procedure for higher-wattage bulbs involves adding relays and swapping out the headlight sockets for ceramic ones.

A few watts isn't going to matter. If you went from 55 watts to 80 watts, you'd need a proper relay harness with thicker wiring and relays to handle the higher current. Going from 55 watts to 60 is well within the tolerances of the wiring.

Of course, with the factory wiring being spaghetti, adding a proper harness would let those bulbs be as bright as they can be. And, there's about zero chance of toasting the factory wiring. Unless you're a complete dunce at plugging the harness in.

My Buick's been running a relay harness for 1.5 years with no ill effects. The bulbs are noticeably brighter with the harness than without.
