LED Sidelights, NumberPlate Lights and Boot light
 

Thought I'd update my GE Jazz with better sidelights.

The problem is that the stock ones are definitely too dim to be useful imo, and whereas the sidelights in most cars used to be part of the light cluster (and thus, even though dim, would use the main reflector to light up the whole thing):
http://img813.imageshack.us/img813/3...1230150823.jpg they're nowadays housed in their own discrete "housing" within the cluster. This means that they don't light up the whole thing at a low level, but instead glow very dimly as discrete spots of light.
I noticed that when a fellow Jazz was oncoming or following behind with sidelights on, they were a bit too inconspicuous for my liking.....so I changed 'em.

The LEDs are 25 LED lights for the fronts, but I also got single LEDs for the number plate to match the stock LED rear light clusters:

Overall, they came to about £4.39 each including delivery (I also bought a spare for the fronts too).
You can get them for cheaper on Ebay (down to half the price sometimes), but run the risk of getting cheaply made stuff that burns out after a few months, hopefully mine'll last a lot longer.


I wasn't intending to "match" the headlights by making them HID because I don't want to damage or interfere with the cabin light levelling mechanism, this was just to make the car more easily visible in overcast/rainy conditions when sidelights only are on.....the fact that they add a slight "blue tinge" to the headlights is a bonus ;).

I may change the boot light to either a brighter one or add an LED strip in there somewhere. It's mainly pragmatic in my part in that when I go to my car at night after work, I can't see a damn thing with the low level stock light (car park at work is VERY poorly lit) so just wanted a bit more brightness more than a colour change...

An LED strip underneath the boot cover (which it looks like you have) would be perfect!

Xenon Dipped/HighBeam and FrontSpots
 

Final small change for the time being; I changed the main/dipped and front spots to Xenons. I wrote same brightness but on driving around, the xenons appear to be ever so slightly brighter :) - more importantly, they are MUCH whiter than my poor camera skills could capture (the stock look more noticeably yellow in reality when comparing):

Next job is either a brighter boot light or the LED strip you mentioned...forever tinkering :D...

@Gaffer, looks great! What bulbs did you use to replace the headlights and fog lights? I'm also in search for some whiter lights for the main headlights and fogs. TIA!:wavey:

i had an led in the side as well but keep an eye on those things, I ended up going back to stock after one started strobing and I noticed it was burnt. The inside housing got smoked up also by the led burning out...

So did u remove the clear plastic surrounding the parking light so it wuld light up the rest of the headlamp?

@LeAJazz: Got them cheap from eBay for less than £11 for both dipped/main H4's as well as both front fog H11's (i.e. for all 4 bulbs).
For that price, even if they last 6 months, I'll at least have an idea if they worked well or not and go for better Philips/Osram/Pia ones next time.
Just type "honda jazz xenon" into ebay. Also, remember to go for the bulbs that have the "metal cap" on the end as they're meant to radiate less heat forwards (towards the plastic lens of the headlight sitting just in front) - I've seen some for sale without the "caps" and would personally avoid them...
I would also avoid the sellers selling higher 100W H4's because I've heard reports of housings melting due to the 2.5x more heat generated in a housing not designed to take it. I would only buy 55W/60W (55W on dipped, 60W on High Beam) versions in order to stick as close to "stock" as possible. You won't get "more" light, but you will get "more useable" white light...

@xonexlifex: I didn't remove anything. There is no plastic surround that's removable on UK sidelights - the way the headlight is made, it just happens to "leak" light around the housing like that. It wasn't very noticeable but it was there with the old stock yellowy ones - replacing with the super white LEDs simply made it more noticeable :).

@Santiad: Cheers, you're right. In the same way I chose the same 55/60W H4's to avoid the housing from melting, I'm keeping a hawk eye on the sidelights too.
However, they're not that much longer and have plenty of space in front of them for circulation (not too close to the lens) plus they use only 40% of the power the stock bulbs do so they heat up even less than "normal" - so I'm hoping everything stays that way ;).....(I will of course, update this thread if anything does happen but so far over the past 2-3 weeks, everything's fine).

The headlight bulbs look good. I would guess that if they were 100W, the advert would be "boasting" about that - the fact that it doesn't implies that these are standard. AFAIK "standard" H4's are all rated at 55W with the ability to go to 60W for high beam. You could always e-mail the seller to make 100% certain.

Re: Sidelights - the only thing I can see is that I made sure all external lights were CAN-BUS compliant. Generally speaking, if they don't specifically mention it then they're not.....
....try something like these, has 5050 SMD's for brightness (or for a bigger selection, specify "w5w canbus led" or "wedge canbus led" in ebay).

Quick Update
 

Just thought I'd update this with a quick addition I did to my boot.
I thought it was too dim despite adding in a slightly brighter LED, so I decided to add an LED strip light in there too:

It sits "facing" the sub so lights up the right hand side of the boot.

It was fairly cheap from eBay (a few quid) and was easy to wire up. Simply extend the wiring so it reaches around the boot and place under the plastic "lining" along the edge. Now connect it in parallel to your existing boot light.
The result? More light, for miniscule extra power consumption :D

Hello guys, noob question here.

What is the maximum wattage for the side parking lights?

I saw some 194 bulbs and LEDs that are 7.5w and some 10w.

I don't want to melt anything in my wiring :hyper:
Just want to know the maximum wattage that i can put so that they can look as bright as possible :thumbups:

EDIT: According to the user manual, the maximum wattage on a 2011 Fit's side lights is 3.8w :(
Can anyone confirm if they have used a higher wattage bulb?
