I'm thinkin a couple half inch squares of the foam double sided sticky tape stuff should do it. Placed in the areas of the plate that makes contact. Look in your junk drawer, you probably already have some.

-OR-

Some of those peal and stick rubber bumpers that you can put on your kitchen cabinet doors to keep them from making noise. Many styles, sizes, and types available at your local hardware.

My Fit came with two stips of foam behind the plate. They're about 1" wide, 4" long, and 3-4" apart. No rattling here.

I too, used foam tape, to keep the rear plate from rattling. I also bent it at the top a small amount to keep it firmly pushing against the foam at the bottom, then tightened it.

My ratttling was from the license plate frame. Since it was a dealer advertisement I removed it. Rattling gone.

Yup, same with mine. The bottom of each strip of foam is right where the bottom holes on the license plate are.

I used the velcro squares that come with adhesive.

It works great! Put them on the foam pads and on the back of the plate.

They are rock steady, and removable.

I'm experiencing a lot of rattling from the rear license plate too. It's hella annoying.

License Plate Rattle

Try applying some foam tape to the points of contact. Our good friend 3M should be able to supply what you need. Apply it on the back behind the screw holes and anywhere else it might make contact with the hatch. Should end that annoyance! BTW: It worked for me!!
